Self-catering accommodation and holiday cottages in Orton
Orton is a small and pretty Cumbrian market village lined with 18th century cottages and described by author Alfred Wainwright as, ‘a place of tranquil beauty and unpretentious appeal’. The Howgills and Orton scar form an incredible background, while nearby Gamelands is one of the biggest stone circles in Cumbria. Back in the village itself, you’ll find a prestigious farmers’ market and a very special chocolatier: Kennedy’s Chocolate Shop. As well as the shop itself, there’s a café with a viewing window allowing you to see truffles being made! Pick some up and head back to your cosy holiday apartment for the ultimate romantic break, or choose a sweet treat for the kids (and yourself, of course!).
Start planning your stay in Orton
Orton’s position within the Eden Valley and Yorkshire Dales, and just a stone’s throw from the Lake District, makes it the ideal location for a walking holiday. Surrounded by spectacular countryside, you can spend every hour exploring a brand new footpath on some of the Dales’ most popular hikes. Remember to seek out Cautley Spout in the Howgills, which is one of England’s tallest waterfalls, or wander along the gently winding River Lune. Forget the car, too: you can always get to and from your destination with the help of trains on the picturesque Settle to Carlisle Railway. Back at your self-catering cottage in Orton, you can kick off those boots, settle back in a squishy chair, and start planning tomorrow’s excursions!
