  • The perfect abode for two friends in the heart of the countryside
  • Bring your four-legged friend to enjoy the area and the large, sheltered garden
  • Nestled on a non-working farm in Eden Valley at the foot of the Howgill Fells
Property code: OC-SZ355

This property is a peaceful, relaxing, friendly little retreat on a non-working farm at the foot of the Howgill Fells in Cumbria’s beautiful Eden Valley. Set within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, there are lots of little footpaths to discover as well as steep climbs, rolling fells and valley floors to choose from. The large, sheltered garden is the perfect place to return to for a cup of tea or cheeky G&T after a day out exploring. The cottage is warm and comfortable and ideally suited for two friends sharing as it has one bedroom with two single beds.

The pretty village of Ravenstonedale is a mile down the road and has the rare distinction of still having two very good pubs! A few miles beyond is the small town of Kirkby Stephen with its pleasant shops and cafes. It prides itself on being a ‘walkers are welcome’ town and has lots of vibrant, small independent businesses.

A favourite place to visit is Stenkrith Park, a native woodland that borders the River Eden with a variety of pathways including a beautiful viaduct walk and a great wild swimming spot at the far end of the park.

Your nearest lake is Haweswater, around 30 minutes away, with Ullswater just beyond, or Windermere a 45-minute drive away.

This really is a lovely little cottage - it's one of those places that has a lovely 'feel' to it. It's an upside-down place with the bedroom and bathroom downstairs and the living area upstairs. The bedroom has two single beds with a chest of drawers and hanging space. The shower room is also downstairs.

Upstairs is the open-plan lounge with kitchen and dining area. The lounge has lovely views over the garden and the sofa and armchair are convivially arranged around the electric stove. There is a TV with DVD player, and a selection of DVDs to borrow. Dining for two takes advantage of the views and the kitchen area is equipped with microwave, electric oven, hob, fridge, freezer and plenty of storage space.

Outside the garden is an oasis of nooks and crannies and places to sit. There is a summerhouse, a fire pit and you are totally surrounded by nature.

There is plenty of parking by the cottage. Please note that access to the cottage is via an unfenced farm track surrounded by fields. Cows live in the fields in July and August, sheep at other times of the year.

It was without a doubt a super nice property, so well equipped and immaculately clean. The owners were so helpful and attentive to every need. Scores 10 out of 10 in my book. Id highly recommend this as a venue for anybody wishing to visit the beauty of Cumbria.

We were absolutely delighted with our stay, we wouldn't change a thing! It was well worth while a 7 hour drive. If we had sunshine we may never have left!
