Property code: OC-SZ350

This is a beautiful one-bedroomed first-floor apartment, part of the stunning 18th-century Orton Hall. Set in 5 acres of shared parkland and woodland, it offers a wonderfully relaxing home-from-home for two people to explore this beautiful corner of the Dales. Once you've finished exploring outside and collected your keys, enter the Grade II-listed hall, whose indoor facilities in the large ground floor panelled lounge include a pool table, baby grand piano, chess table and comfortable armchairs in which to just relax around the coffee table. Head to the top of the stairs to find your apartment. The property is full of character with gorgeous stone mullioned windows and part-panelled living room. The open-plan kitchen-living-dining room is a lovely social space: move easily from cooking up a feast to relaxing on the sofa! The spacious bedroom with king bed is wonderfully relaxing, with a modern, bath plus shower en-suite bathroom.

Orton is sited perfectly within the overlap of The Lakes, The Dales and the Vale of Eden and in the village you'll find a village general store and post office, pub and chocolate factory. It's a lovely village for exploring on foot and there are plenty of footpaths and bridleways to stroll, amongst the gentle hills - make sure you take some chocolates to keep you going! 10 minutes' north in the car over the high limestone of Orton Scar will take you to Crosby Ravensworth, another picturesque Dales village with pub. An easy 20-minute drive east will take you to Kirkby Stephen. A quaint market town, here you'll find antique shops, bakeries, chippies, and an Indian restaurant, as well as a large supermarket for stocking up.

Gracious and welcoming, you'll feel instantly at home in this apartment. The modern kitchen is well equipped with everything you'll need for a self-catering holiday. As well as plenty of crockery, utensils, and glasses for all occasions, there's an electric oven /grill and hob, kettle, toaster, large fridge/freezer, handy microwave and a dishwasher - there'll be no fighting over who has to do the washing up here! The kitchen area is open plan to the rest of the living accommodation. Thanks to the part wood panelled walls, the living area is cosy and relaxing. Curl up in front of the electric fire in its tiled fireplace with a good book (there's a selection of fiction and local reference books and maps in the cabinet) or relax on the elegant sofa for a night of TV /DVD watching. An HDMI cable is provided for hooking up streaming devices to the TV. The dining table is perfectly positioned in the large mullioned and lead-paned bay window. Enjoy breakfast with a view as you look out over the rear lawns and woodland - be sure to keep an eye out for any of the wildlife and birds who like to pay Orton Hall a visit too.

From the living room is the spacious king-size bedroom and en-suite bathroom, with ample drawer and wardrobe storage space, as well as a useful full length mirror, hairdryer and radio alarm. The bed is positioned by the stone mullioned window with its view over the surrounding grounds, just perfect for that morning cup of tea in bed! Off the bedroom is the en-suite bathroom featuring the extra luxuries of a whirlpool bath and power shower.

Downstairs is the communal grand hall. This superb mahogany-panelled room includes a snooker/pool table, baby grand piano, chess table and comfortable armchairs where you can simply relax and enjoy the ambiance.

There is also a laundry room downstairs with a coin-operated washing machine and tumble dryer.

Outside, holidaymakers have access to the well-groomed 5 acres of parkland that the photogenic hall is set in. Beautiful lawned areas with a fountain and fishpond are sure to delight. Follow the short woodland path through the trees to find a lovely 180-degree panorama stretching from Orton Scar round to the Howgills. Take an insulated mug up to the seat here in the morning, and plan your day, keeping an eye out for the resident red squirrels. If you wish to take a stroll up to the nearby village centre, the hall has a rear drive which allows a more pleasant approach than along the main road.

We booked a last minute stay in Naseby at Orton Hall and was not disappointed. The hall itself is a lovely old house standing in large grounds. The apartment is lovely - has modern facilities without spoiling the original features.

Wonderful accommodation in a beautiful setting. Perfect romantic birthday getaway. Lovely welcoming pub and local shop. And a delightful chocolate makers /shop. Only one slight gripe, waiting for the water to heat up for the second shower. Would most definitely book again.
