Property code: 83287

A beautifully converted barn with lots of character and original features, perfectly placed to explore the Northern Lakes with your family.

This lovely, converted barn sits on the edge of Bassenthwaite, just 7 miles from Keswick. This is the perfect base to explore the Northern Lake District: Cat Bells fell and the mountains Skiddaw and Blencathra are all nearby and there are some great cycling routes too. The bustling market towns of Keswick (7 miles) and Cockermouth (8 miles) are both a short drive away where you will find a great selection of local amenities, restaurants and the National Trust’s Wordsworth House and Gardens. The Lakes Distillery, home to the Lakes Gin collection, is just over a mile away and you can book a tasting session or tour. After a day out walking, why not book a relaxing spa day at the luxury hotel which is less than a mile away from your front door; they offer a selection of fabulous treatments or you can just enjoy an afternoon tea.

As you enter the barn, you will find the bright and airy lounge, with feature stone walls and comfy sofas, next to the TV and DVD, perfect for settling down and watching your favourite films. The kitchen is just off the lounge: it is compact but equipped with everything you need to cook your favourite meals, with an electric oven and gas hob, fridge, freezer and microwave. When the food is ready, settle down at the dining table. The two bedrooms are also just off the lounge, there is a double bedroom with a pretty beam ceiling and a single bedroom, with its unusual low-level window. Both bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms with a shower and WC. There is a private garden to the side of the barn with seating, overlooking the fabulous fells of Bassenthwaite.

There is ample private parking at the front of the property.

Disappointed with the level of cleanliness Im afraid, fridge and microwave need replacing as rusty inside. Musty/damp smell, particularly in bedrooms

good location, near to Bassenthwaite lake for walks and pub serving good food Sun Inn a 20 min walk and they are dog friendly. was fine for a 2 night stay. The enclosed garden is at the side of the property so if you have a dog you can't just let it out of the door (not ours anyway, she'd be too interested in the sheep) so a morning wee meant goingRead more on the lead to the grass area, which actually wasn't a problem for us. cottage comfy, comfy beds, clean. basic kitchen but had all we needed. A fantastic little cottage, perfect for our family of three plus two dogs. The location is simply stunning and the views over Lake Bassenthwaite and the mountains each morning put a big smile on our faces. Would highly recommend.

The cottage is located in a very attractive, rather isolated part of the north end of the lakes in a quirky farmyard. (Now unused as such!) There is good parking close to the front door. Although billed as dog friendly, there is no secure area adjacent to the cottage to allow a dog to use without direct supervision.

Nice cottage and location that was let down by poor cleaning. Carpet was dirty, lots of cobwebs and dirty windows

If you just need a base to explore the lakes from by car or bike then this cottage is fine for a basic nights sleep and a nice hot shower . If you were thinking more of being able to explore the area on foot with idyllic walks for you and your dog then this is not the place for you . No where to walk nearby from the property unless you do not mind Read morelots of roadwork . It is a shame that no views can be seen from the cottage only a courtyard of other properties. Hide

Although the cottage was comfortable and the bedding and towels were spotless the cottage itself was rather disappointing. It is in need of a deep clean because of stains on the carpet and nose art on the windows from previous dogs. The garden overlooked the chemical toilet disposal dustbins and a compost heap that didn't smell very nice. The photoRead more of the property doesn't give a clear picture of the surrounding properties and courtyard. View could only be seen from the garden. Hide

Cannot fault the cottage, very clean and comfortable. Our only disappointment was that there was no view from any of the cottage windows. They overlooked a cobbled courtyard and three other buildings. Surrounded by stunning scenery that we couldn't see!
