Holidays in Buttermere
Buttermere self-catering accommodation and cottages
The delightful Buttermere Valley offers a picture postcard scene of towering craggy mountains, sheep-studded greenery, and an unbelievably pretty lake. With just a tiny village to its name, places to stay in Buttermere are rarities, making your holiday to the valley all the more special. Couples and solo-travellers will love the cosy traditional holiday cottages, while slightly larger parties can escape to remote farmhouses that are just brimming with character! Two pubs and two cafés in the village provide plenty of refreshment (and excellent ice cream!), while the walks around the lake or up into the fells are some of the most beloved in the Lake District. Drink in all the beauty of this breathtaking valley by booking a leisurely stay in our self-catering Buttermere accommodation.
Start planning your stay in a Buttermere cottage
Though Buttermere is its own little pocket of delight, many of the Lake District’s most popular locations - as well as its hidden gems - are within easy reach. Head over the imposing Honister Pass to Honister Slate Mine at the top, with its mine tours and Via Ferrata Xtreme. The Borrowdale valley stretches beyond, with a tantalising number of walks and the market town of Keswick at the other end. In the other direction you’ll find Buttermere’s twin lake, Crummock Water, as well as the hidden valley of Rannerdale, awash with bluebells in the spring. Cockermouth is your nearest town and well worth a visit thanks to its connection with William Wordsworth, many excellent restaurants and cafés, and riverside walks.
