Holidays in Buttermere
Crummock Water cottages and self-catering accommodation
Though often overlooked for its twin lake of Buttermere, Crummock Water is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Lake District. Tranquil and elegant, it’s a popular location for walking, either along the lake shore, through shady woodland, or up to Cumbria’s tallest waterfall, Scale Force. Our Crummock Water holiday cottages offer tranquil self-catering retreats, with romantic hideaways for two and larger group accommodation for friends and family to get together. Whatever the size of your party, remember to hunt out the ‘hidden valley’ of Rannerdale during your stay. Tucked out of sight from the road, the valley is carpeted in bluebells in spring, making for a truly magical experience. You can enjoy a gentle evening wander along the designated paths, or scale the crags of Rannerdale Knotts for incredible views of three whole lakes and the sea in the far distance. Spectacular!

Hop along to next-door Buttermere lake for more excellent walking, as well as your nearest eateries: two popular pubs and two brilliant cafés. Just beyond, you’ll also find Honister Slate Mine up one of the Lake District’s famous high mountain passes. Explore England’s last working slate mine with tours and adrenaline-filled adventures like the Via Ferrata Xtreme. Crummock is also within easy reach of Cockermouth, a pretty market town filled with excellent restaurants, independent shops, antique dealers, and riverside rambles. Or seek out the coast: a hidden gem in West Cumbria that boasts long, sandy beaches, coastal towns, and historic delights.
