This is a traditional retreat located right in the heart of the popular village of Braithwaite. The ground floor of this cosy cottage is open plan, with the fully fitted kitchen just one step up from the living/dining area. On the first floor are the two bedrooms, a lovely double and a cosy single, and family shower room. As well as parking for a car, outside you'll find a welcome bench and picnic bench and stone outbuilding, ideal for securely storing bikes if you'd like to explore on two wheels instead of four.

In Braithwaite, you'll find a wonderful village shop and three pubs to choose from, all serving real ales and hearty home-cooked meals. Walkers will delight at the great choice of routes on offer straight from the front door. Head up local fell Barrow for stunning panoramic views or walk along the beck to the beautiful Newlands Valley. Pack a picnic and spend a day on the fell tops tackling the famous Coledale Horseshoe, a circular walk that's a must for any serious hill walker. Why not hire mountain bikes at Whinlatter Forest? You'll find three dedicated cycling trails - not to mention a friendly cafe for refreshments afterwards!

If you do fancy venturing further afield, take a scenic drive through the Lakes to the pretty village of Grasmere. Visit Dove Cottage, the former home of the poet William Wordsworth, before stocking up on the village's famous gingerbread. Continue on to Ambleside for a look around the independent shops before enjoying lunch at one of the quirky cafes. Keswick is only 3 miles from Braithwaite; often called the adventure capital of the North Lakes, why not try your hand at ghyll scrambling or canyoning with one of the local adventure companies?

Head inside straight into the open-plan living/dining/kitchen area on the ground floor, a great social space ideal for a holiday home. The living area has a two-seater sofa and armchair, cosily positioned around the electric stove. There's a smart TV for entertainment and by the window overlooking the yard is the drop-leaf table and chairs. Up a single step from the living area is the kitchen, compact but well equipped with everything you'd need for a self catering holiday: there's an electric cooker and hob, fridge/freezer, useful washing machine, clothes airer and handy microwave.

Up the open tread stairs from the living area to the first floor where you'll find the two bedrooms and shower room. As you climb the stairs the ceiling becomes lower as you step on to the landing which has a modern Velux window set into the sloping roof. Please note, the open tread feature of the stairs may not be suitable for very young children. The lovely double room is light and bright, with a handy wardrobe and chest of drawers for storage, and views of the Helvellyn range and Skiddaw. The second bedroom is a cosy single, with a useful chest of drawers. The shower room contains the WC, wash basin and modern shower cubicle, great for reinvigorating tired muscles after a day out on the fells.

Outside is a gravelled yard area which provides parking for a car. There is also a picnic bench and separate bench out here, ideal for lunch alfresco or for a peaceful few moments with a good book. There's also a useful stone outbuilding for securely storing two bikes if you'd prefer to explore on two wheels.

Lovely stay at Cosy Cottage. A great location at the start of the Coledale Horseshoe with a pub a stones throw away. We made good use of the well equipped kitchen and had a very comfortable stay - perfect for a couple and their dog for a week of winter exploring in the nearby hils!

Cosy cottage is well named. It was small but perfectly formed. The walk in shower was a particular bonus as was the pub nearby

A nice comfortable cottage and well equipped. But if you are tall you need to duck upstairs. 3 local hostelries within walking distance. A good bus service into Keswick. Easy parking on road outside cottage. Enclosed parking at the cottage but tight for an SUV. Would I hire the cottage again - Yes

Ideally situated near 3 pubs and local shop with walking nearby. Parking with care is fine for a medium sized car. Our week was so wet we used some central heating which worked well. Bus to Keswick is frequent and 5 minutes away. Internet was fine. No BBC Iplayer, shame! Richard and Erika September 2025

The cottage itself was lovely and in a prime location in terms of the village and its surroundings. We only had an issue with the washing machine in terms of amenities as it would not drain and our clothes were stuck inside of it for 2 days while we waited for someone to come out. In terms of the cottage, the lounge/kitchen was really lovely, well Read moreequipped and spacious enough for 3 people and a dog. I addition to this, the bedrooms were comfortable and felt like home.
