This cosy, traditional stone property for two in the pretty village of Rosthwaite offers a great base for a couple who want to explore the beautiful Lake District. There are wonderful walks and cycle trails on the doorstep, while, if you plan to go car-free, the village has a year-round village bus service along the Borrowdale Valley to Derwentwater (4 miles), and Keswick (6.5 miles). Rosthwaite has a tearoom and restaurant, together with a farm shop, where you can stock up on local produce.
This appealing first-floor apartment is reached via a shared hall. A staircase leads to the entrance and a bright, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with lovely views over the village to the surrounding fells. There are two comfortable reclining chairs—ideal for putting your feet up after some serious walking—in front of a wall-mounted electric fire. A compact, country-style kitchen has a dining area by the window. The double bedroom, furnished in soft shades with a Victorian-style bed, has the same beautiful outlook. Outside is a shared garden with covered seating and a large, suntrap lawn, both with outstanding views.
Take a 50-minute boat trip around Derwentwater for a taste of the glorious Lakeland scenery. You can enjoy water sports such as sailing, canoeing and kayaking or hire a rowing boat to explore this beautiful lake at your leisure. Put on your walking boots for an energetic climb up the old packhorse trail to the idyllic hamlet of Watendlath. Or take the circular route from Rosthwaite to Castle Crag, with stepping stones across the lovely River Derwent along the way. Head to Keswick for a show at Theatre by the Lake and visit nearby Castlerigg Stone Circle, one of the oldest prehistoric monuments in Britain.
