- Burnthwaite farm cottage is all about the location. If youre after a hiking holiday then this is a fantastic place to be . From the doorstep you have the lake, Scafell pike, Great Gable and a host of valley and hill walks to take your breath away. The cottage itself is small with very basic facilities . The fridge would only function on the coldest setting so we lost a bunch of fresh fruit and veg as they became frozen as did the milk. The bed mattresses were very shallow and uncomfortable and the layout of the kitchen was such that there were no work surfaces to prepare food on. The bathroom was very small but the shower worked fine so all good. Georgina and Andrew were welcoming hosts and Marvin the bull was a great draw with the kids. As mentioned in another review, we arrived on the Friday evening and did not use the car again except to pop to Gosforth for some groceries. Asda and Tesco do deliver and we arranged an asda delivery for the Friday evening.
There is no internet nor phone signal anywhere about until you get on higher ground.
Overall a very enjoyable and relaxing time as we had good weather on our side. I would consider booking Burnthwaite farm cottage again.
