Situated in the west of Cumbria, within the Lake District National Park, this charming semi-detached cottage is ideal for friends or families who enjoy fun outdoor adventures in a dramatic remote landscape.
This property is a picture perfect cottage in the heart of the most unspoilt scenery in the Lake District. Situated in Wasdale, this self-catering holiday cottage sleeps between five to seven people in three comfortable bedrooms with a sofa bed in the lounge.
It has been recently renovated to provide modern living, whilst retaining its charming original features. Built in the 1700s, original beams line the ceilings in the dining and sitting rooms and a large wood burner keeps the cottage warm in the colder months.
The legendary Wasdale pub landlord Will Ritson once lived in this cottage. He told tall tales from behind the bar of his pub and so started the World's Biggest Liar Contest!
From the front of the property you can enjoy superb views across the valley to the famous Wastwater Screes. The cottage is located at the entrance of Wasdale proper, prime walking country, this unspoilt valley offers routes to the roof of England, to Scafell Pike, Great Gable and Pillar. A public footpath passes the cottage providing direct access to Buckbarrow, Seatallen and the high peaks beyond as well as many, scenic low-level, walks through to Wastwater.
Two excellent pubs are within walking distance in Nether Wasdale.
You enter the cottage through the entrance porch which leads into the dining room, a sociable space with a wooden floor and beamed ceiling. There is a large wood burner within the original fireplace, a sofa, and dining table and chairs. An initial supply of fuel is provided for the wood burner and more can be purchased locally. The cottage is semi detached to a private holiday let building.
The large sitting room occupies the barn conversion, which has been carefully integrated as part of the cottage with original oak rafters and tie-beam dating from the 1700s - a charming feature. There is a 40' flatscreen TV with a basic Sky package and a Blu-ray player. The staircase to the first floor leads to a gallery, constructed in Wasdale oak providing a quiet area with a desk and chair. Wi-Fi access is available.
In the kitchen there is a double eye level oven, an induction hob, microwave, dishwasher and a washing machine.
Upstairs there is are a king and double bedrooms. One has fabulous views across the valley to the famous Wastwater Screes. The other has an en-suite with a shower, wash basin, heated towel rail and WC.
There is a further bedroom with a single bed and a family bathroom with bath and hand-held shower, wash basin, heated towel rail and WC.
Outside is a lawned south-facing garden with wonderful views of the Wastwater Screes. There is also a large side patio and a lockable shed, which may be used for storing outdoor gear and bikes (with care due to low stone entrance). Two or three cars can be parked on the driveway.
Dogs are welcome and we ask that they are not left alone in the cottage, or allowed on the furniture or upstairs, and that guests clean up after them including in the garden. The cottage is located next to working farms keeping Herdwick sheep and other livestock, so dogs must always be carefully controlled and kept on a lead. Please note the fields surrounding the cottage are private. There is access to Nether Wasdale along the farm track.
