Holidays in Patterdale
Patterdale accommodation, cottages and lodges
The small Lake District village of Patterdale is the last before the ascent onto the famous Kirkstone Pass. Just a stone’s throw from the southern tip of Ullswater and a mile south from Glenridding, and with mountains rising high on either side, it’s a wonderful base if you’re looking for a self-catering walking holiday. Climbers and water lovers will also adore this as a holiday location thanks to the abundance of water sports, lakeside walks, and lake cruises available nearby. Hop onto a heritage steamer, hire a kayak, or head onto mountains such as Helvellyn and High Street for unforgettable hikes. Our Patterdale holiday cottages provide the ideal base for all these wonderful activities. They’re perfect both inside and out with traditional stone-built cottages, shepherd huts and former farmhouses all offering truly characterful accommodation.

There’s plenty to explore around Ullswater. A short lakeside drive will lead you to the spectacular Aira Force waterfall, the pretty market town of Penrith, and the hidden rolling landscapes that surround Ullswater. There are plenty of outdoor adventure providers, or head to Rookin House Activity Centre for everything from archery and horse riding to human bowls and JCB driving! A drive up the intimidating Kirkstone Pass will get you to popular locations such as Ambleside, Windermere and Bowness. Passing through a pastoral landscape of green fields, Herdwick sheep and traditional Lakeland farms, you’ll be delighted by the surrounding views. If you’re a history enthusiast, keep an eye out for signs of our ancestors, with stone circles, Roman mountain passes and remnants of a mining history scattered about the landscape.
