Book a stay in this delightful stone cottage in the quiet Cumbrian village of Glenridding and have a Lakeland holiday to remember. Sleeping four guests, and also welcoming one canine companion, the two-bedroom retreat is in an exceptional position for anyone seeking fabulous fell and lakeside walks. Make the most of your proximity to enchanting Ullswater by taking a steamboat cruise on the lake or hiring a motorboat, rowing boat or canoe. Return home afterwards to bask in the sunshine of the cottage garden in the summer or to light the wood burner for cosy evenings in.

Open the door to this exquisite abode and wander inside to discover an airy kitchen/diner, complete with a useful washing machine and tumble dryer for whizzing through walking gear. Unpack your shopping, start preparing dinner then lay the table and call everyone through. Afterwards, make your way into the lounge to stoke up the wood burner, find a film on the TV with Sky box sets, or listen to music through the Sonos system. When you are ready for bed, climb the stairs to run yourself a bubble bath in the roll-top bath. Lay your head in either the twin bedroom or the king-size, with an extra z-bed for youngsters under 12 (at a supplementary cost). Spill out into the south-facing garden on warm days; have a cup of tea here and enjoy the tranquillity. You have parking for one small-to-medium car about 15 metres from the cottage.

Pick up the Ullswater Way, a 20-mile route going right around the lake, and follow it for a spell to immerse yourselves in the glorious scenery. Visit magical Aira Force Waterfall, about 3 miles away. Have a day out in Keswick, 16 miles away, to browse in independent shops and galleries and dine out.

We loved our stay in Tonkin Cottage. Very comfortable and well-equipped with everything you need. Double glazing helps it be cosy and quiet. It was superbly located in the heart of the lake district near Ullswater and nestled between mountains. We enjoyed plenty of beautiful hikes from the cottage including Helvellyn. The cottage is an easy 5 minRead more walk to the lake for a swim or paddleboarding. We heard owls at night which was a treat! We would definitely return to Tonkin Cottage. Hide

Small but well equipped with everything needed as a well-located base. Plenty of walking and places to eat/drink and shop just a short stroll from door and access to the steamer too. The car mostly stayed put. Probably not suitable for someone with mobility issues, stairs as usual for properties of this style and age, quite steep and there are stepRead mores to each bedroom from the landing. We enjoyed our stay, would recommend. Hide

Practical location. Parking was appreciated. Be aware the parking is a short distance from the front door so you have to carry luggage on the street. Not busy though. Also stairs to bedroom are steep. Step down out of bedroom and a step up to bathroom. Not a problem for us but could be for someone. Otherwise, Ullswater is gorgeous and steamer boat Read moreride was fun. Hide

Lovely cosy cottage for a stay in Ullswater; close to shops, cafes, pubs. Great for walking around the area straight from the cottage. Perfect for a small family of 3 plus dog; outside area was small but fine for sitting with a book or cup of tea - semi private as joins next door with a low gate;

Well equipped, clean and modern. It was a pleasure to stay, and the scenery and walks are stunning. We found the parking space a great asset to have and I can imagine the enclosed back yard being very pleasurable in summer months.
