A fabulous conversion, and a real rural retreat.
Whilst it is a wonderful place it could benefit from minor improvements to the interior, although signs of intention are prominent through planning application.

We had a wonderful stay at St John's Church. It's a very unique and well thought out build with lots of space and original features. A great selection of books, games and dvds were supplied and you didn't need anything else to be content. There's a local bakery within walking distance. We headed into town by car for additional supplies such as extra wood for the fire and additional food. The surroundings are stunning, with lots of beautiful walks. The spire was an amazing extra with fabulous views, especially on clear nights. We'd love to return in the near future.

We spent a great week at the church in mid September - took a bit of a chance as there were no reviews previously, but I'm glad we did. It's a beautiful building and the big open living area is great to relax in. The heating system keeps the rooms warm and the log fire is perfect for an extra boost, and was well supplied with fuel.

There's nothing by way of shops in the village, but we walked to Melmersby (30ish mins, or a 5 minute drive) and had some nice coffees and cakes in The Village Bakery. The kitchen is well stocked and everything was clean. Just one word of warning: if you're particularly squeamish about spiders or flies, you might need to watch out, as there are a few big spiders hiding out in the high ceilings (we didn't have any problems).

All in all, a memorable and enjoyable stay.
