Old St John's Church is a unique holiday cottage: a stunning converted church located in the pretty, peaceful village of Gamblesby on the edge of the Pennines. Comfortably sleeping eight people in four bedrooms, three of which are en suite (and one with access to a 'secret' room), it is ideal for larger families, extended families or couples wanting to holiday together. The exterior of the church has been left virtually unchanged whilst inside the original features have been cleverly retained and woven into a modern and comfortable home-away-from-home.
Gamblesby is a small farming village nestled beneath the steep Hartside slopes of the Pennines on the edge of the popular Eden Valley. Within walking distance or a short drive, the neighbouring and equally pretty village of Melmerby has a pub and a bakery with shop and café. There are plenty of local walks and quiet lanes for cycling with the whole of the Eden Valley stretching out before you. Visit enigmatic Long Meg and her daughters or choose a path along the lovely River Eden itself. Drive the scenic road up Hartside Pass to England's highest market town, Alston, explore its mining heritage and take a ride on the preserved steam railway. You're also within easy reach of Carlisle, the Eastern Lake District, and the Settle to Carlisle Railway.
Old St Johns Church offers a truly unique holiday, with plenty to keep your whole party entertained for your whole stay.
