This delightful spacious property is in a privileged position. The main sitting room is decorated in a contemporary fashion, offering dual-aspect sitting areas, comfortable sofas and armchairs and a Smart TV. Lying at the foot of Ullock Pike, this lovely holiday property is nestled under the grandeur of Skiddaw and overlooking meadows and woodland towards Bassenthwaite Lake. The property has recently been renovated to a very high standard with beautiful furnishings to create a luxurious yet homey self catering cottage. The farmhouse is south-west facing with French windows leading to a patio – a fabulous spot to watch the sun go down after a hard day out on the fells.

There is fantastic walking from the front door in the majestic Skiddaw range, smaller Dodd Wood or along the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake. The owners have thoughtfully provided a high specification telescope so you can look out for the visiting ospreys during nesting season. Red squirrels are regular visitors to the Parkergate gardens. The lovely St Bega's church nestles on the lake shore, said to be the inspiration for Alfred Tennyson's Morte d'Arthur after his visit there in 1835.

Bassenthwaite village is a 30-minute walk (1.5 miles) over the fields and is home to a pub which serves good meals and ales and is child and dog friendly. Keswick is just 5 miles away, market day is Thursday and there are plenty of pubs, cafes and outdoor shops to keep you busy on a rainy day.

A playroom offers outstanding views of the valley and fell, with a telescope provided to watch the wonderful wildlife and visiting ospreys as well as a TV. The sun room also boasts spectacular views, it is open plan to the dining area, furnished with dining table and chairs and a wall-mounted flatscreen TV. The dining area leads through to the country-style kitchen.

The kitchen is  equipped with an island unit and breakfast bar, gas hob, built in double range oven, microwave, dishwasher and large Smeg fridge with freezer compartment at the top plus a fridge freezer.

Stairs from the inner hallway lead to the landing with bedrooms off it. The master bedroom has a super-king-size bed and fabulous dual aspect windows with views to Bassenthwaite and surrounding fells. This bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower over, WC wash basin and heated towel rail.

There are two further king-size bedrooms, one with a large en-suite bathroom with a bath, separate shower, WC, wash basin and heated towel rail and the other with an en-suite shower room.

There is a twin bedroom. The family bathroom with has a large shower, WC wash basin and heated towel rail.

Outside, there is a private sitting out area to the front and decking to the side of the property with table and chairs. There are lovely shared gardens to enjoy and you may see the native red squirrels!

The property was in a lovely location. The property was very well equipped and the layout downstairs worked very well for the whole family. However there was damp and mold in one of the bedrooms .The rest of the cottage was very clean and comfortable.

We had a lovely stay at Parkergate Farmhouse. Beautiful view. Spotlessly clean. Lovely bedding, comfy beds, excellent crockery and spotless glassware. The only downside was the number of steps inside the property, in bedrooms and bathrooms resulted in multiple trip hazards until we got used to them, this should be made clear on the listing.

A large cottage with useful rooms like a utility/drying room, a room to hang coats, a playroom for the children plus lots of bath/shower rooms. The manager of the property was very helpful when I phoned up. The views even in bad weather were delightful. The toys left out were great for our toddlers and the table-tennis for the adults. This is a superb property - great location, all the bedrooms are very good; there is plenty of seating in the dining and living room areas; there is also extra space downstairs including a carpeted area (where we did some yoga-type exercise) and a table tennis room (where we stored a pushbike). The kitchen is very well equipped with more than enougRead moreh cutlery and crockery. Everything works well, including the showers. Stunning scenery all round the property. Parkergate Farmhouse has the most beautiful views looking westward across Bassenthwaite Lake. Its well equipped and comfortable with plenty of parking while Keswick and Cockermouth are easily accessible. Its a good base for the northern Lakes.
