Elm How is a beautiful, well equipped and very remote cottage close to Patterdale. Four large bedrooms and a lovely large sitting room made it feel spacious even when at full capacity with 8 adults. The beds are really comfortable.
The kitchen has everything we could have needed as well as a large fridge/freezer and a large dining table. The walks from the house are fabulous - we went up to the Easedale Tarn, up to St Sunday Crag, to top of Hellvellyn and a couple of walks on the other side of the lake, including High Street, all without use of a car.
It was nice to have a selection of games, we also took with us a selection of DVDs and our own games. The Wifi was reliable and worked in the whole house apart from the kitchen.
Although we liked the feeling of remoteness, it was a good 40 mins to the nearest supermarket. The shops at Glenridding (less than 10 mins away by car) sell essentials at a premium price.
The nearest hotel was a five minute drive down the track - but not a great selection of food for walkers, The pub opposite was horrible - full of dogs on seats, etc, so we only ate out one night.
The cottage was called "dog-friendly" which worried us a bit, as we hate the smell of dogs, but the cottage didn't smell and felt really clean.
The only downside with the cottage was the fluctuating water temperature in the showers - scalding hot to freezing cold. The bath was lovely. If you have a very low car, the track could prove a problem, but it was OK when driving really slowly.

Hi Sarah, great to hear how much you enjoyed your stay - it sounds like you had a fantastic time! Well done on getting to the top of Helvellyn - no mean feat!

Beautiful cottage in stunning location, a lot of walkers pass the front door all day long so it’s not quite as peaceful as I expected but nevertheless still beautiful. The kitchen requires a few new pots and pans the current ones are really worn.
Would maybe return but at a quieter time of year.

Hi Joanne, thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, it's a lovely place for a relaxing break isn't it? And the location is stunning, just perfect if you enjoy getting out for some good walks.
Thanks for letting me know about the pots and pans, I'll take a look. I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.

Fantastic location and lovely cottage. Very comfortable equipped with everything you need. Fabulous walks and scenery and even a red squirrel was spotted which was very special. Only issue we had was a lack hot water due to a boiler problem which was not rectified until our last day.
