Explore the heart of northern Cumbria and Northumbria with a stay in this truly rural cottage that sleeps four guests and two canine companions. Offering increased accessibility and a versatile layout, this two-storey cottage is a top choice for those with limited mobility. Head out on easy-going or more challenging walks in the surrounding countryside, setting off from the owner’s farm to explore a national park or the stunning Scottish border towns that are peppered with fantastic local history sites.

Cosy and welcoming from the moment you step inside, the ground floor lounge is your first port of call. With original beams and exposed brickwork, the countryside nature of this cottage has been maintained for a truly traditional feel to your getaway. Snuggle up by the wood burner-effect electric fire and get stuck into the local guide books left out for your perusal. Prepare quality meals in the kitchen/diner and be sure to make use of the rear courtyard, weather allowing. Completing the ground floor is a highly-versatile double bedroom with an adjustable bed and en-suite wet room, whilst a second bedroom on the first floor is also presented with a handy en-suite.

The cottage sits just 4 miles from the North Pennines AONB and 7 miles from the Northumberland National Park, so it’s clear to see that outdoor adventure and unforgettably scenic routes are always on offer close by. History buffs will find plenty to rave about when walking along Hadrian’s Wall (4.5 miles), whilst lovers of fantastic birdlife should flock to the RSPB Geltsdale Nature Reserve (4.5 miles) to spot grouse, curlews and plenty of beautiful barn owls. Further afield you’ll find Scottish border towns including Gretna Green (19 miles) which is well worth a visit for shopping or dining out!

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the cottage but it is in need of some tlc The furniture was best described as functional but dated. The outdoor area was disappointing with the garden area overgrown and the patio area needing attention to make it somewhere more inviting to sit outside and relax. The cottage is in a lovely secluded rural location but Read moreis in need of some attention both inside and out to make it a more desirable place to stay. Hide

We really enjoyed our stay at this cottage. Super comfy and cosy, pet friendly and really well located - close enough to Carlisle and a host of nice walks and things to visit, yet super "tucked away" on a quiet road only used by a few farms as far as we could tell. I think we saw one other car go past the whole week. Lovely outlook on trees and a sRead moretream (might not be ideal with young children). 3 bathrooms so we could have one each! Thoroughly recommend this cottage for a stress free getaway! Hide
