Experience the true beauty of Eskdale and the Lake District when you retreat to this rustic hideaway. Sleeping six guests, the three-bedroom, stone cottage offers homely accommodation at Birkerthwaite, near Birker Moor. Welcoming pets, the property, which is 4 miles from Eskdale Green, is ideal for families and friends eager to set out on foot to explore their surroundings. It has a beautiful garden that children and pets will adore and a wood burner for winter evenings.

Tear yourselves away from the views of Scafell to enter the cottage, which dates back to the 1600s. Discover a lounge/diner with beams and the wood burner. Lay a fire in here on chilly days then settle down to play games or watch the Smart TV or a DVD. Head through to the country kitchen to prepare hearty meals on the oil-fired Aga. Pause at the table in here with a cup of tea as supper roasts then call everyone through to dine in the main room. When eyelids begin to droop make your way up to the first floor of the cottage. Here your bedrooms include a twin, a bunk bedroom and a king-size with a four-poster bed. The family bathroom is also at this level. Make the most of the gorgeous lawned garden on sunny days. Fire up the BBQ out here and dine in the fresh air. Play family games then sit out under the stars with a bottle of wine after the children have gone to bed. Keep your eyes peeled for an array of birds and possibly the odd red squirrel.

Venture 9 miles from your base to the shores of picturesque Wast Water. Head 10 miles to Ravenglass to walk along the beach or take a trip on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. Visit Muncaster Castle, 7 miles away.

Ganny House is a lovely away from it all holiday house. The garden is enclosed and the views are spectacular. We were surprised that the internet was good and I was able to stream films on my laptop. It's very warm downstairs with the kitchen aga and a log burner but I imagine it could be cold upstairs in the winter months. Fantastic location with views to match. The cottage is perfect for the Lakes, very practical but also cosy with the log fire. Will certainly stay again.

We absolutely loved our stay. What a privilege. We had everything we needed. Ganny House is gorgeous. We appreciated especially the AGA, the beautiful furnishings, and the peaceful atmosphere. The setting in the Eskdale region of The Lake District is a perfect retreat and location to explore the beautiful surroundings.

The secluded location of this property with its generous dog friendly garden & walks straight from the door were just what we looked for & they did not disappoint. The always on, Aga in the kitchen literally radiates a warm feeling to the room & the gentle heat is invaluable for drying out those wet boots & clothes overnight. Never having had an AgRead morea before, we had no trouble in using it to cook a few meals. All in All we had a great stay. Hide

Outstanding location, peaceful with breathtaking views and superb walks from the door. Lack of cleanliness in the property left us feeling disappointed given the cost. One issue was the fly's - understandable being surrounded by sheep but it was the lack of control measures to tackle them. They really do get everywhere! Sadly, due to the lack of clRead moreeanliness and hygiene a return isn't likely. Hide

Ganny House is a lovely property situated within breath-taking scenery. The property is well appointed and maintained throughout. The enclosed and secure garden is a real plus point if you are taking dogs on holiday with you. This location is ideal for anyone wanting to get away from it all as it is very quiet and peaceful, with only walkers and shRead moreeep in the vicinity. This is a charming and very comfortable cottage, warm and easy to cook with the Aga, a pretty yard outside and nice back garden to sit out in, as well as fabulous views and local walks. The TV didn't work as well as hoped, but four of us had a lovely week together there.

The cottage is very remote and in a beautiful location. The weather is a little different up there but when the clouds clear its really special. There were quite a lot of midges for half the week and at times we couldn't really open the doors so if they bother you then perhaps this one is not for you, but the property is clean and quaint, and the pRead moreeace and quiet is lovely Hide

We had a great week at Ganny house. We arrived the day before storm Bert, so the weather was wild, snowy and cold. But the Aga keeps the kitchen warm and the living room warmed up nicely once we got the wood burner on. Cooking on the Aga was great fun, brilliant for hearty roasts. The location is tremendously isolated, which suited us fine, but youRead more can still get to a shop if you need to. Lots of walking nearby, bagged 13 wainwrights during the week. A delightful cottage, in a beautiful location. Remote enough to be far from the madding crowd, but within walking and driving distance of some great spots. A wonderful garden; all necessary amenities and appliances, utensils, etc.; immaculately prepared and very clean. Look forward to returning here again (and again).
