Part of a Grade II-listed manor house in the peaceful village of Armathwaite, this elegant three-bedroom property makes a lovely base for exploring the heart of Cumbria. Armathwaite itself is known for the five faces carved into its striking sandstone cliff. The property is just 10.5 miles from Carlisle surrounded by the Eden Valley’s rolling landscapes. Sleeping six guests, it’s an ideal spot for friends or family groups seeking countryside calm with plenty to see and do nearby.
On arrival, drive through the electric security gate into the shared courtyard and parking area, where there’s space for three cars. Inside, the accommodation blends contemporary country style with period charm and a cheerful colour scheme. The lounge has gorgeous exposed beams, a Smart TV and French doors opening into the garden, so you can bring the outside in when the weather’s nice. Sit down for leisurely meals in the charming dining room, with its long wooden table and garden views. This has French doors and leads through to a spacious kitchen with a central island and wine fridge. While an old range oven remains as a character feature in the inglenook, the kitchen is fully equipped with two electric cookers for modern cooking. Upstairs are three opulent super-king-size bedrooms, all with en-suite shower rooms and Smart TVs. One of them has a striking free-standing copper bath within the room itself. The other two feature zip-and-link beds that can be arranged as twins on request. Outside, your private garden includes a sunken courtyard with space to relax, dine and enjoy the hot tub (soft robes). You are also welcome to wander through the shared grounds at your leisure.
The surrounding Eden Valley offers beautiful scenery for walking and cycling straight from the village, while the dramatic North Pennines are just 5 miles away. Head to the Lake District National Park (12 miles) to discover a wealth of walking routes and outdoor experiences. Pooley Bridge (18 miles), at the tip of Ullswater, is a popular spot for lakeside strolls, steam cruises and boat hire, including rowing boats, canoes and kayaks. Keen walkers can also follow sections of the Ullswater Way around the lake. History lovers won’t want to miss Hadrian’s Wall (11 miles) from the property.
