For a solo or romantic getaway in the heart of Cumbria, a stay at this elegant ground-floor studio apartment certainly won’t disappoint. It’s set within a striking Grade II-listed Georgian manor house in the peaceful village of Armathwaite, and one of three luxurious properties in the building – together sleeping up to 16. The setting is beautifully rural, with the Eden Valley all around and the bright lights of Carlisle 10.5 miles away
After accessing the premises through electric security gates, you’ll enter into a shared courtyard where there’s parking for one car. Pass through the mansion’s original front door of the manor house and into your open-plan studio, which combines a modern lounge, kitchen and dining area all with lovely high ceilings and bright yellow walls. You’ll have a cosy loveseat, a roaring wood burner and Smart TV for relaxed evenings in, along with a handy work area positioned next to a window. The kitchen is ideal for cooking romantic meals, enjoyed together at the dining table with a bottle of wine. Behind a partition is the sleeping area, with a luxurious super-king-size bed and stylish shower room just beyond. When it’s time to soak in the hot tub, step outside in one of the soft robes provided and prepare for a touch of indulgence in your private courtyard. You can also dine al fresco in fine weather or wander through the wider shared grounds to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and local wildlife.
The surrounding area is fab for exploring on foot or by bike. Armathwaite itself is known for its dramatic sandstone cliff featuring five carved faces, while the North Pennines (5 miles) await for moorland walks and big skies. Head 12 miles to reach the fringes of the Lake District National Park or plan a day trip to Ullswater (18 miles), where you can cruise the lake on one of the famous steamers, hire rowing boats or canoes at Pooley Bridge, or tackle part of the 20-mile Ullswater Way along the shoreline. History lovers can also visit Hadrian’s Wall (11 miles) for to step back in time.
