This is a very comfy and well equipped cottage in a pleasant rural location. The kitchen is a bit gloomy but the dining room/table is a good size with good lighting for eating and playing games. Mire House is a lovely place to visit and just down the road.

We had no hot water for 5 days, the people staying above us even after communication with them had 2 young children that ran around the apartment sounding like baby elephants, this would start from 7AM and continue until 10:PM each night, I did ask the parents to stop this from continuing, however they did not seem to be bothered if we were disturbRead moreed each day or not. the apartment we stayed in (Marley) could do with a little refurbishment, some of the ceilings were showing signs of having had bad leaks from the apartment above with paint and plaster cracking and looking loose, the curtains in the main living room were in need of a good wash or being replaced, the room with the washing machine and dryer was in a desperate state of needed all the spiders and cob webs removing, we felt like Indiana Jones the room was that full of webs and very dusty and dirty in there. The cottage is in a beautiful setting and perfectly positioned for visiting Keswick, Braithwaite etc. The Castle Inn is handy for meals out as it is within a short walk of the cottage. Sadly, during our trip, we experienced issues with damp and mould in both the kitchen and the twin bedroom. Our son ended up unable to sleep in the twin room due tRead moreo feeling unwell when in there. When we investigated there was considerable mould around the window, on the wall at the bottom of the bed and in the corner of the room. He ended up sleeping on the sofa in the lounge for 2 nights and we left a day early so that he could get a good nights sleep. During our visit, my Dad got stuck in the shower cubicle in the ensuite. This was reported and someone attended to fix the problem, however it remained an issue for the remainder of the time we were there. Hide

Maintenance needs improving. There was black mould in the twin room at side and behind wardrobe. The water was dangerously hot for children's use. There was a strong smell of damp in the kitchen. Damp marks on ensuite

Fabulous place to stay and in a perfect location to be far enough away from town not to suffer noisy pubs or passers by or light pollution but still having fab views of the valley, very close to Bassenthwait water and in perfect location to reach all of the lakes with ease or to take an hours trip to Hadrians wall.

The cottage is in a lovely location, and on the whole is well equipped. Standards of cleanliness weren't met and the vaccum cleaner left was filthy and broken. There were damp issues in the third bedroom and a nasty smell as a result. Lack of soundproofing meant Noise issues from property above. A good location, a what3words location would help location as the postcode is inaccurate. The cottage has good sized rooms and lovely views of the hills. The oven would probably prove small for a larger family.
