This charming holiday home on the shores of Bassenthwaite makes a great base for couples and small families seeking a relaxing break in breathtaking surroundings. The property is close to the market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth (both within 8 miles), and there are some great attractions nearby, including The Lakes Distillery (1.5 miles) and Mirehouse and Gardens (3.5 miles). In the evenings, unwind with a glass of wine in the garden, taking in the spectacular Lakeland views.

This charming retreat is warm and inviting and has been decorated and furnished in a traditional style. Original features, such as an exposed stone wall, give the property a cosy, rustic feel. Enter the cottage into the sweet lounge, where comfortable seating is arranged around a TV/DVD. From here, head into the farmhouse-style kitchen, which has everything you need for a self-catering break, as well as a wooden dining table for sharing mealtimes together. When day turns to night, retire to one of the inviting bedrooms, a double and a single, both of which have en-suite shower rooms. Outside, an enclosed garden with a picnic bench awaits, boasting stunning views of the surrounding fells.

There are some beautiful walks from your front door, including along the western shores of the lake, where the views and wildlife-watching opportunities are fantastic. Further afield, the mighty fells of Skiddaw (5.5 miles) and Blencathra (13 miles) are a must for keen walkers. Alternatively, the gentle slopes of Catbells (12 miles) make a lovely walk for children or those seeking a less energetic stroll, but still with panoramic views. The bustling town of Keswick offers a wonderful selection of independent shops and eateries. Here, you can also board the Keswick Launch for a magical cruise across Derwentwater.

The location was great for us with friends in both Keswick and Cockermouth. While things were not perfect, we really enjoyed our stay and would consider returning. It is more like 8/10 than 10/10. The internet was not stable and could be slow. Tao Lodge has some character and it met our needs well.

It was a lovely cottage with beautiful views in a nice location. Unfortunately, after being out every day exploring, we were woken very early every morning by a cockerel in the farm next door which lasted for over an hour.

Cold and damp weather meant cold and damp cottage. Heating off, bathroom heating controls hidden behind bedroom furniture. Single dehumidifier supplied extracted 4 litres of water per day from one bedroom aloneLots of flies trapped inside on arrival. Dog field shown on spec had been turned into caravan site, so the view from the cottage was not a tRead moreranquil idyll and nowhere to exercise the dog. Hidden driveway on very fast main road meant access by car and walking dog both extremely dangerous. Hide
