Situated amongst breathtaking surroundings, you can easily explore the rolling countryside. Head off on foot along the Finsthwaite Heights trail from Newby Bridge (1 mile), which leads to the serene tarn of High Dam set in a quiet woodland. You will be just 2.5 miles from the shores of Lake Windermere, where you can hire paddleboards, kayaks and canoes. If history is more your thing, take a trip on the steam trains at Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway (3.5 miles), or stroll the medieval streets at Cartmel village (4 miles).
