Escape for a romantic break at this lovely, accessible ground-floor apartment in a peaceful traditional stone complex of properties in the village of Portinscale. Sleeping two people in one bedroom, it’s the ideal country bolthole for a romantic couple who want to spend their days ghyll-scrambling at Derwentwater, and their evenings enjoying romantic al fresco dinners on the pretty patio.

Accessibility is key at this property. A ramp is available on request to access the entrance porch (from there, all rooms and the outside patio are easily accessible). There is also a shower chair and handrail at the bathroom. Step inside and head through into the spacious kitchen to cook up a romantic meal for two. Dine together at the table in the lounge, or head outside and dine alfresco on the patio. This is a really romantic spot with views over the tiered garden and a private section of lawn. After dinner, crack open a bottle of wine and watch the stars come out, or head inside to the lounge to snuggle up in front of the wood burner-effect electric fire. When it’s time for bed you’ll find a gorgeous master bedroom with garden views just off the hallway.

Take a lovely walk from Portinscale to the market town of Keswick (1.5 miles). There you can check out the exhibits at the Keswick Museum or take the 1.5-mile hike up to Castlerigg Stone Circle. Keswick also a wonderful selection of independent shops and restaurants. Or grab your hiking boots and head up to Cat Bells, which offers incredible view across Derwent Water. Start at Hawes End Landing Stage (1.5 miles) and enjoy a lovely 3.5-mile circular route that boasts views of Keswick and Borrowdale along the way.

Lovely cottage in a very quiet location. Used it as a base for walking so didn't drive around much. It is about 1 mile from Keswick which we walked easily. Very comfortable with everything you could need.

An excellent base for; touring the lakes, walking the high fells, walking the low fells, walking lakeside paths, cruising on the "waters" and "meres", visiting the cafes, putting your feet up, enjoying the wildlife in the garden and having a brilliant holiday. We've done all of these things from this base!

The cottage was well equipped for all weathers. Clean and comfortable and well off the road, making it a very quiet location. There was also a nice private garden. Portinscale is a good location, being a short walk to Keswick, on a bus route and within walking distance of Derwentwater and Catbells. It has a restaurant serving breakfasts, lunches anRead mored teas. Hide
