Dine together at the table in the lounge, or head outside and dine alfresco on the patio. This is a really romantic spot with views over the tiered garden and a private section of lawn. After dinner, crack open a bottle of wine and watch the stars come out, or head inside to the lounge to snuggle up in front of the wood burner-effect electric fire. Take a lovely walk from Portinscale to the market town of Keswick (1.5 miles). There you can check out the exhibits at the Keswick Museum or take the 1.5-mile hike up to Castlerigg Stone Circle. Keswick also a wonderful selection of independent shops and restaurants. Or grab your hiking boots and head up to Cat Bells, which offers incredible view across Derwent Water. Start at Hawes End Landing Stage (1.5 miles) and enjoy a lovely 3.5-mile circular route that boasts views of Keswick and Borrowdale along the way.
