What a lovely house! The view was fantastic, the garden was great with lots of hide and seek opportunities and it didn’t take my sons long to find the rope swing just along the river footpath.
Just a short walk into Keswick to get the essentials and being close to the A66 it didn’t take long to get to Cockermouth either for other necessities (thoroughly recommend the pies from Tony Harrison butchers in Cockermouth, the lamb with mint gravy one was exceptional).
Thick Riggs was a great base to start from for lots of different activities. The house itself is spacious and has a great shower for a post walk clean down. The rooms were lovely and whilst the sofas were a little old we found them comfy enough and fought over who got to sit in the recliner chair!
It was also a nice treat to see the birds eating from the feeders whilst we were having our breakfast and if you watched carefully you could sometimes see the little mouse who lives in the stone wall pop out to eat too.

Hello Lucy, Thank you for your glowing feedback! It's a gem of a cottage, isn't it? The location is perfect for making the most of everything that Keswick has to offer. I will certainly try the lamb with mint gravy pie you recommended!!! Family time is the best and you will have made memories that will last a lifetime. I would love to welcome you back again in the future.

We loved Thick Riggs! particularly the homeliness and sense of space, a great retreat after a days fell walking.

The bungalow is well situated with stunning views over the Skiddaw range, a gate in the back garden takes you a 1/2 mile walk along the river Derwent to Keswick town centre. The Farmers Arms has new owners, and am sure they will make a success of a local pub (a precious commodity nowadays). To relax on the terrace, or watching the numerous birds visiting the garden is magical.
The two bathrooms are great, we had the main bedroom with a huge bed to sink into and breathtaking views. Thick Riggs is a special place with much to enjoy, the interesting array of books range from nature to fiction invite you to peruse. Internal decor is eclectic, with some family pieces of furniture, and vintage fabrics giving a lived in vibe.
The kitchen and domestic appliances are ready for an upgrade, and a new sofa and carpet would lift this property, giving a wow factor. Some attention to the condensation is required. We feel that these points need addressing ASAP, as they did impact on the quality of our stay.

Hi David, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay, it's a lovely place for a relaxing break isn't it? And the location is perfect for heading out exploring. Portinscale is one of my favourite villages in the Lakes!
I really appreciate your feedback and suggestions for improvement and will make sure everything is looked into, thank you.
I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.

A lovely cottage. 15 minutes walk from Keswick centre. Nice local Robinsons pub within 100 yards.
Well maintained, very comfortable and large beds, and attractive gardens. The rear garden steps down to a field and then the river - a really bucolic aspect. The front garden has a pair of bird feeders which are very well used, and it was a real pleasure to eat breakfast and watch the various finches and tits have theirs only a few feet away.
I'd happily stay here again (maybe for a dryer week next time!)
