Set near the banks of the River Rothay, this family-friendly cottage is surrounded by picture-postcard scenery at the heart of the Lake District National Park.

This property is a stylish, modern cottage for six people. Located next to the picturesque River Rothay but within easy walking distance of Ambleside, you've got the best of both worlds straight from the front door. A haven for outdoor enthusiasts, there is a secure shed for bikes, a canoe store and ample parking, meaning you can leave the car where it is and head out on foot, two wheels or take to the water! Inside, this cottage is spacious, bright and airy. The open-plan living-dining-kitchen area is fantastic and perfect for sociable living. On the ground floor is also the first of the three bedrooms, a lovely king-size room with its own en-suite wet room. Head up the stairs to the first floor and you'll find the super-king bedroom (which can be made up as a twin upon request), spacious twin room (which can be made up as a super-king upon request) and the family bathroom, along with a cosy reading corner on the landing. Outside there are two seating areas, perfect for al fresco dining or simply taking in the views of the adjacent river or surrounding fells.

With the River Rothay as your neighbour, you're sure to feel inspired to get out on the water. Don't have your own canoes to bring with you? Don't worry, you can hire them along with motorboats from nearby Windermere. Or why not enjoy a cruise on the launch, letting someone else do the hard work whilst you take in the breathtaking scenery? For those who fancy a spot of retail therapy, Ambleside has plenty of independent and outdoor shops to potter around. Grab lunch to go from one of the local delis or bakeries and enjoy it in the bustling park; challenge each other to a round of crazy golf when lunch is over.

Why not spend a day exploring the magnificent Langdale Valley? With its rugged mountains and peaceful tarns, it's a must for any avid fell walker. Head up Lingmoor Fell for stunning, panoramic views of The Lakes. Stop off at one of the traditional pubs on your way back for a hearty meal and refreshing drink. Take a scenic drive to Grasmere, once home to William Wordsworth. Visit his former home at Dove Cottage before treating yourselves to a delicious afternoon tea at The Daffodil Hotel; if you've got any room left after that, stock up on the village's famous gingerbread before heading back to your home from home.

As the name suggests, this fantastic cottage is in an enviable position next to the picturesque River Rothay and is a fabulous home from home, built in 2017 to a very high standard. An energy 'A' rated, carbon neutral property, the cottage has triple glazed windows, fantastic insulation, solar panels and whole house ventilation. Head inside this fantastic cottage and you won't be disappointed. Leave muddy boots under the covered entrance porch and continue onwards into the open-plan living-dining-kitchen area. With windows on all sides, this is a wonderfully light, bright and airy room, super spacious and perfect for easy, sociable living. Cooks in the party will love the well-equipped kitchen, there's an electric oven, gas hob, fridge/freezer, handy microwave and useful dishwasher so there'll be no fighting over who has to do the washing up! Prop up the breakfast bar, ideal for a morning cuppa or keeping the chef company. Gather round the wooden dining table, compare notes on the day's events over a hearty home cooked meal. The living area is perfect for relaxing, with two sofas and an armchair to choose from. For entertainment there's a TV with Freeview and DVD player, as well as a CD player with iPhone jack if you'd prefer to enjoy your own music. The many windows in the living area look out over the surrounding trees and fields, keep an eye out for the birds and wildlife who also like to pay a visit! A useful utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer is great for storing outdoor gear. A handy extra WC can also be found on the ground floor.

There is a septic tank at Riverside Retreat so please be mindful of what you use. We kindly ask that you refrain from using any antibacterial products, bleach or wipes. A plentiful supply of approved cleaning agents will be provided for your stay so please feel free to use these - you are more than welcome.

Also on the ground floor is a fantastic king-size bedroom. Wonderfully spacious, this room contains a wooden king-size bed, built in wardrobe for storage, dressing table with stool, armchair and its own Freeview TV with Blu Ray DVD player. Off this bedroom is a great, modern en-suite wet room, with WC, wash basin and walk-in wet room-style shower.

Head up the shallow flight of stairs to find the other two bedrooms and family bathroom. Pause on the landing at the cosy reading area. With plentiful bookshelves, reading light and welcoming armchair, it's the perfect spot to lose track of time for a while and escape the stresses of everyday life with a good book. The super-king bedroom (this room can be made up as a twin upon request) has a lovely dressing table, wardrobe, open storage shelves, armchair and its own Freeview TV. With fantastic views over the surrounding fells, its the perfect place to watch the sun go down. The second bedroom is a large twin room (this room can be made up as a super-king upon request); this spacious room also has a Freeview TV with Blu Ray DVD player, dressing table, armchair and a wardrobe and open shelves for storage. There is plenty of space in this bedroom for a travel cot should you need it. As well as the expected WC and wash basin, the family bathroom also benefits from a full size bath and separate shower cubicle so all tastes are catered for: enjoy a long soak in the bath or reinvigorate muscles tired from walking in the shower. Whatever you decide, the heated towel rail means warm towels will be waiting.

Outside this delightful cottage is a lovely paddlestoned garden area and herb garden. With outdoor seating at the front and side to take full advantage of the views over the surrounding fells and adjacent River Rothay, you're sure to love dining alfresco out here. A real bonus is the fantastic extra storage on offer, with hangers for six bikes and a separate store for one or two canoes - perfect for exploring your surroundings on two wheels or for taking to the water.

We have stayed at Riverside Retreat several times now and cannot recommend it highly enough. The location is perfect - quiet and within easy reach of Ambleside. The furnishings, equipment, etc are spot on and the parking area is great. Will certainly be back.
