Thornthwaite is a quiet hamlet on the edge of Whinlatter Forest, close to Braithwaite and Bassenthwaite Lake. Thornthwaite boasts a popular gallery and tearoom. Whinlatter Forest draws thrill seekers to the Go Ape hire wire activity course, and the Altura mountain bike trails. You can also enjoy walks to the quiet summits of Lords Seat, Barf and Broom Fell.
Nearby Braithwaite has three pubs all serving excellent food. For something a bit special try the Cottage in the Wood on the Whinlatter Pass. Keswick is a 10 minute drive from Riverside Cottage offering a wide selection of pubs, restaurants and shops. Keswick also boasts a cinema and the Theatre by the Lake.
