The Retreat is a real home from home; it is warm and comfortable with all the conveniences of someone's own home with everything set up to make staying there very easy and relaxing. We appreciated the washing machine, tumble drier and drying area so we could deal with muddy walking trousers and boots easily. The whole house has been decorated to a very high standard; the beds and settees are of a very high quality and very comfortable indeed with superb bedding - we had the best nights' sleep we've had for months ! The Retreat is close to the estuary in Ravenglass so very well placed for a walk along the front for birdwatching and to visit the local pubs and the railway as well as easy access to the fells above Ennerdale, Wasdale and Eskdale. We had a wonderful week here and were sorry to have to leave - we'll be back !

The cottage is truly luxurious and I'm delighted you had the best nights' sleep - perfect for recharging the batteries! You couldn't have picked a better location for exploring the Lakes and getting out and about on some great walks. I very much look forward to welcoming you back!

Lovely, comfy home in fabulous location with easy access to the stunning western lakes. The house was well equipped, stylish and beautifully decorated. We loved early evening walks along the estuary to watch the sunset after a day exploring the lakes and fells. Local attractions of Muncaster Castle (don’t miss the hawk display) and steam train ride up the Esk valley are well worth the ticket price. We loved the wildness of Wast Water and Ennerdale and beautiful Coniston and Crummock Water.

Hi Cate, many thanks for you lovely comments and handy tips, which are always useful. Those hawk displays are fabulous, aren't they? Here's to more peaceful walks in the sunset.

This was a beautiful little cottage in a good location. Due to the weather we made a lot of use of the local miniature railway into Eskdale. We felt really comfortable here and there was very little passing traffic (less the trains). A lovely holiday location.

Hi Andrea, so sorry about the weather but glad to hear that it gave you the chance to explore Ravenglass Railway and the stunning Eskdale valley. It really is a wonderful location, isn't it?
