Head downstairs to the spacious bright kitchen-diner overlooking the garden or wile away a summer evening around the table on the terrace enjoying the peace and quiet of the garden. This historic property has many virtues to help you relax and make the most of your stay.

With a great location on the edge of Bowness, this cottage offers that sought-after combination of a quiet rural location that is still within easy reach of all the amenities and attractions Bowness has to offer. Scenic rural walks start right from your door so you can explore the beautiful local countryside at your leisure. Take an evening stroll down into Bowness and choose from one of the local restaurants or pubs and then watch the sunset over the lake, what could be nicer? Families will not want to miss the chance to meet Peter Rabbit and friends at Beatrix Potter World and with Windermere on the doorstep, some watery activities are a must.

Bowness is well connected for exploring the rest of the area, with regular boat services across Windermere you can make the most of the stunning views on the way to Lakeside, Brockhole, Ambleside or Wray. Hop on a bus to the historic market town of Kendal for a wander around the range of independent shops or follow Wordsworth to the delightful village of Grasmere and visit Dove Cottage. For more energetic pursuits there are many potential routes for walkers or cyclists from low level circuits to some serious climbs, wherever you go the common feature will be beautiful views of the lakes and fells.

A beautiful and stylish cottage, with comfortable furniture and sumptuous furnishings, there are four other cottages on Matson Ground.

Built in the late 1800s to serve Matson Ground, this cottage was designed to look good from the outside whilst offering good views of people coming and going it nestles perfectly into the wooded setting. Conveniently close to the parking area the front door opens into a spacious hallway and straight away you will see this is no normal cottage – welcome!

The large entrance hall has high ceilings above a lovely slate floor. With a rug and two-seater bench as well as the usual coat hooks this is not just a hallway but also a lovely extra space to enjoy some peace and quiet.

To the left the unique seven-sided living room is bright, stylish, comfortable and beautifully finished. There are four windows on four walls looking out over the driveway to woodland beyond so during the day this is a light and peaceful spot to relax. In the evening with the curtains closed and wood burner lit it is cosy and calm, perfect for sociable evenings with the family or curling up with a book. Two chairs and a two-seater sofa all face the traditional fireplace with slate hearth and timber mantle, the TV is wall mounted alongside. Handy side tables with lamps dotted around the room and there is a set of built in shelves with a CD player/radio and a selection of books and DVDs.

On the far side of the hallway there are two bedrooms separated by the family bathroom. The bathroom is modern and sleek with a large bath and double size separate shower. With a high ceiling, tiled floor and half-tiled walls, it is spacious and bright. Get some fluffy towels warming on the heated towel radiator and spoil yourself with a nice long soak.

To the left of the bathroom the pretty double bedroom looks out over the back garden to the trees beyond. With bedside tables, wardrobe and a dressing table with mirror and a flower theme running through the pictures this is a comfortable relaxing room.

On the right a twin bedroom tucks cosily in the corner also overlooking the garden, this room has a nautical and calm blue and white theme. The twin beds have a shared bedside table with drawers and there is a hanging rail with shelf for storage.

Back into the hallway and to the right of the front door are the stairs which lead down to the dining area with a circular table seating four. This is semi-open plan to the kitchen beyond. Beautifully fitted out and finished with country-style tiled splashback this well-equipped kitchen is a pleasure to use. Built in fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine, a ceramic hob, electric oven and microwave are surrounded by storage and plenty of worktop space. The windows look out over the garden surrounded by trees.

Off the dining area to the left, a short corridor with storage area leads to a handy downstairs cloakroom with sink and WC.

Outside the garden wraps around the cottage with a path leading down from the front door round to the back door off the dining area. A pleasant slate patio with table and chairs at the back of the cottage enjoys peaceful views over the lawns and trees, perfect for dining alfresco. We have just returned from our stay at The Lodge, and we have nothing bad to say! The property was spotless throughout, it was very cosy and homely. It had everything that we needed, the travel cot and highchair were good too. There was a stairgate which we were very pleased to find when we arrived. The location was lovely, steep hill to get to theRead more property but that didnt stop us from walking up and down it with a pram to go to the small town nearby, but you get a lovely view the windows!
