As a keen walker and someone very familiar with the Lakes this was an ideal location. There is an almost endless permutation of walks from the door. I used the car only once during the week. If you are not so familiar with the Lakes and want do do a lot of sightseeing this may be a little remote for you. The cottage is warm, cosy, comfortable and very quiet. I had one day of rain which was a good excuse to fire up the woodburner, watch the scenes through the window and read a book. Pubs are in easy walking distance, beware shopping should be done before arrival unless you go on an expedition. The only downside was the bathroom, which is cold even with the towel rail on. I would happily stay here again.

Beautiful place to stay, right off the beaten track. Footpaths start from the door whether to climb Scafell, Harter Fell or Hardknott, or simply to cut across the fields to Boot or Dalegarth station for the mini railway. A quaint and gorgeous old house. Come here for stars, cockerels at dawn, remote country peace... The little shop at Eskdale Green is a lifesaver for anything you've forgotten

Hi Esther - wow, that sounds idyllic! I am so delighted to hear that you had such a great time! We all need a little more peace in our lives just now, don't we? Here's to getting away from it all more often!
