- Just returned from a week at Larch Cottage. What a lovely place. Its position is tucked away on a quiet lane in the heart of Rosthwaite. 2 mins walk to lovely Cafe / Farm shop which does fantastic Herdwick pasties. The Scafell Hotel (5 mins walk) has a nice bar with open fire.
The cottage itself is old fashioned in an "oldy worldy" kind of way BUT everything works really well. The heating is great. There is an open fire which we only used twice because the night storage heaters work so well. The views of the various surrounding mountains are fantastic. We has some decent weather and were able to sit out in the lovely little garden and take in the views. There is a "snug" just off the front room which we used to store and dry out our walking gear. This was very handy.
Borrowdale itself is a lovely valley and there are numerous footpaths and walks you can do straight from the door.
We went to the Lakes to continue walking all the Wainwrights and this cottage is in an ideal location for access to the mountains in various different areas.
Several previous reviews mention that the double bedroom is very small. It is - but it hardly matters and it did nothing to spoil our enjoyment at this lovely cottage.
The parking is about 1 minute walk away (if that) and presented us with no problems during our stay.
I would definitely recommend this cottages to others and would not hesitate to come back

Hi Steve, thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your break. The location is just perfect for getting up and out on the fells isn't it? You barely need to move the car at all! And it's such a bonus having several places for a drink and a bite to eat within walking distance.
I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.
