The first time we've stayed her and very pleased. Particular positives are comfy beds, kitchen table, viewseffective central heating and hot water. Location good for walking to the lake, surrounding hills and Brotherswater Inn for evening meal. Other facilities only a few minutes drive up the road in Patterdale and Glenridding.

Hi Steve, thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay, it's a lovely place for a relaxing break isn't it?
I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.

We absolutely loved our stay! The house is full of rustic charm and character which is exactly what we wanted. It is not a boutique cottage full of trendy modern features so don’t expect this - It’s a gorgeous big traditional relaxing warm farmhouse on a working farm. The location is nothing short of spectacular from the front door right across the valley. We walked every day but one (too hot!!) and the views from the local ‘Dodds’ were phenomenal. We were made to feel very welcome by ‘Jimmy’ our host/neighbour/farmer and we would definitely love to go back again, we were sorry to leave!

We had a fabulous week at Dovedale Cottage and we really enjoyed staying in such a historic place. Covid meant that we could not explore inside the attached Hartsop Hall but hopefully a future visit will put that right.
The setting of Dovedale is stunning with lovely views from all rooms. Being able to walk out from the front door (and in Mum's case, using a mobility scooter) to the nearby lake of Brotherswater was a real treat which we did most days. The path was great for the scooter and was one of the reasons for choosing this cottage. The more able amongst our party enjoyed the fabulous walk up to the waterfall. Don't miss it!
The cottage has a lovely private garden with a comfortable patio set for 6. Blessed with great weather for the whole week of our stay, we made good use of the garden enjoying sun rises, bird watching and star gazing and of course, admiring those wonderful views. We were also treated to watching haymaking and sheep gathering for shearing and the great skill of Portia, the adorable sheepdog!
Dovedale Cottage itself is a lovely 18th century property that adjoins the even older Hall. We found it very comfortable, well equipped and very clean. The downstairs bedroom and ensuite shower was ideal for Mum.
Although we had booked the holiday in January, pre-Covid, Dovedale turned out to be the perfect place for escaping the crowds and enjoying peace and quiet. An unexpected pleasure was the company of Farmer Jimmy who entertained us with tales of Lakeland life and its rich history and characters. I am sure we will return!
