Very comfortable cottage and in an excellent location for all Eskdale has to offer, not to mention overlooking the railway. Just two of us staying and I think it may have been a tight squeeze for 4 adults. Overall excellent value for money, and even the weather played ball - hardly any rain!

Hi Michael, thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay, it's a lovely place for a relaxing break isn't it? The good weather was an added bonus! I hope you can come back to explore more of the Lakes soon.

Hitchin Solitary week away!
A very pleasant cottage in a very pleasant, relatively remote part of the Lakes. The cottage was clean, the bed linen/towels were crisp and fresh, the furniture was comfy, the kitchen was small but surprisingly well equipped (and a rare thing in holiday lets - excellent quality frying pans and pots!).
The bathroom was plush and the shower was sufficiently powerful and warm, and the heated towel rack was a helpful feature for clothing that had fallen victim to lake district weather as well as towels!
Didn't use the double room, but the enormous super-king bed upstairs (accompanied by a generous armchair!) was an absolute delight.
The little garden outside was also lovely...a view of the valley, of the little steam trains going by, and the comforting sound of cows chomping on grass in the field next door (the cows, incidentally, did NOT cause bad smells to emanate from their vicinity).
The covered parking area is also handy.
Eskdale itself is a lovely place to be, but my only suggestion to anyone thinking of staying here is that you do a food shop before you arrive (either at your home store or somewhere like Kendal/Penrith)...the little village shop is good for basics but the nearest large store is quite a distance away along windy little roads. My only low-ish rating for this cottage is on the local amenities front for that reason. But there are a good number of nice pubs, and the area is perfect if you like to get away from it all! If you want a bustling place with lots of local amenities, you should probably be looking elsewhere anyway!
My only constructive criticism of the cottage would be that the quaint little split front door (a nice feature that allows you to open the top half whilst keeping the bottom half shut) could do with a bolt that can hold together the top and bottom half...but if that's the worst bit about the cottage, it's not bad at all!
Not sure if/when I'll be coming back to Eskdale but I'd definitely be glad to stay at Damson if I did!
