Enjoy the relaxing ambience of this inviting cottage in Chapel Stile at the centre of the Lake District. Sleeping six guests, this three-storey, three-bedroom abode is in an ideal position for anyone wishing to visit Coniston Water, Windermere and Ullswater. In a village setting, 4.5 miles from Ambleside and 3 miles from Grasmere, it has a delightful, lawned garden and is happy to welcome four-legged friends.

Leave your walking boots and hang your jackets in the porch, then wander into the hall to discover this retreat has a reverse-level design. A king-size bedroom and a twin, both with en-suite shower rooms, are downstairs, together with a family bathroom. The twin bedroom features extra long single beds. Venture upstairs to find an inviting, first-floor lounge/kitchen/diner with an airy ambience. Head over to the modern kitchen area to cater for your party on those occasions you choose to dine in, then set the table for happy holiday meals together. Gather on the soft seating afterwards to watch the Smart TV or listen to music as you play games. There is also a family bathroom at this level. Head on up to the second floor to find the third bedroom, which is another lovely twin. Spend sunny days out in the attractive garden, where there is ample space for children and pups to play. Dine out on the patio here and linger over a bottle of wine as the sun sets.

Head into scenic Grasmere to see the former home of poet William Wordsworth. While you are here, make a stop to buy some of the village’s renowned gingerbread. Visit the National Trust’s Wray Castle, 6 miles away, on the banks of Windermere. Board a cruise out from the jetty here to enjoy more of the national park’s incredible scenery from the water.

A spacious and comfortable property with a well-equipped kitchen. The location was ideal for us, very close to the village shop and a few minutes walk to the local pub. Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for holiday accommodation in this area.

We have had a lovely stay at Oakdene Cottage. We had six adults in the house which was fine. Its good that each bedroom has an en-suite or bathroom. Parking is a huge plus here. Lots of equipment including cutlery, crockery and pans. The dishwasher broke whilst we were there. It was replaced in less than 24 hours. The Original Cottages team were grRead moreeat. Would definitely recommend Oakdene Cottage. Hide

We really enjoyed the location of this property, and overall it was pleasant. There were a few minor niggles which have led to the 3 scores shown. Firstly there was a recurrent bad smell in the main bedroom ensuite. I believe the water U-bend under the shower trap is faulty and is letting foul air in from the sewer. The shower tray also leaks each Read moretime when used. The kitchen units are starting to look shabby with vinyl peeling off several of the doors. The kitchen equipment was also not as good as in other houses weve stayed in. There was no tray for carrying cups of tea, no small sharp kitchen knife, and no pizza cutting wheel, no kitchen scales, no good sized measuring jug, cafetire for only one person. These small additions would help better equip the kitchen. Hide

The cottage was perfect, stones throw away for our lab who loved jumping in the lake. Only this we were disappointed with is no Christmas decorations, we phoned on the 21st of December before we left to ask if the cottage had any Christmassy lights or tree etc and we were told it would so we didnt pack any of our own, luckily we found a hayes and Read moremanaged to buy a tree for our children - other than that it was fantastic. Had a great holiday and booked Oakdene house as well. There was a drainage smell in the downstairs bedrooms. Also quite a bit of noise transferrance between the 2 properties. No issue for us as we were 1 big group but could be annoying if you are only in one and can hear a lot of noise coming from the other.

Third time we have stayed at Oakdene Cottage. Very comfortable, and furnished to high standard. Just a couple of niggles - the Sky package seems to be very different, with no movies and no ability to record programmes. Also, the kitchen now is in need of a bit of a facelift. Last year, we noticed some chipping of the laminate on the doors, dishwashRead moreer etc., and it is now much worse. I know it is general wear and tear, but if paying 1000+ for a week, then improvements should be made. Having said that, we'll be back ! Hide

Overall a very satisfactory experience. Good quality facilities and information. Nice and clean. Double bed downstairs very small for long stay. As was en suite. For us the location was excellent , very clean , lovely fluffy towels and plenty crockery . Comfy beds and great showers Our only negatives is the very small fridge, if we had had 6 people in the house we would have had to shop daily which is not a holiday .
