Lace up your walking boots and head off on foot through the magical Lake District National Park from this Cumbrian cottage near Loughrigg Tarn. Sleeping four guests, and welcoming four-legged friends, the three-bedroom hideaway sits in a beautiful garden, 2.5 miles from Ambleside. With an open fire and a wood burner, the semi-detached retreat is a perfect year-round choice and a superb option for anyone wishing to be close to Lake Windermere yet nestled in peaceful surroundings.

Step into the stone retreat to find a warm welcome and homely ambience. Head through to the lounge after your bracing walks to rest your weary feet beside a roaring open fire. Watch TV in here too and make your plans for the following day. Head through to the airy kitchen to prepare the Cumbrian treats you have sourced in Ambleside, then light the wood burner in the dining room, open a bottle of wine and call everyone through to eat in the dining room, which is two steps down. When eyelids begin to droop, climb the stairs up to the bedrooms for a relaxing night’s sleep. One king-size room and two singles can be found on the first floor, together with the family bathroom. Lose yourselves for hours at a time in the picturesque views from the garden. Supervise children near the stream and water feature and dine outside in the fresh air on sunny days.

Stroll up to Loughrigg Tarn, less than 500 metres away, and complete a circuit of just over 1.5 miles long around the beautiful lake. Make your way into Ambleside to shop, dine out and take a ferry out on Lake Windermere from the Waterhead Pier. Have an afternoon out in Grasmere, 8.5 miles away by car, and treat yourselves to some of the village’s famous gingerbread.

This is a traditional and well maintained family holiday home in the best senses. There's a large double bedroom and two good singles. There are lovely views and a beautiful garden with a stream. The road is very quiet, and the cottage is warm with central heating (we went in March with all the daffodils out) and has the bonus of wood fired stoves.Read more The furnishing is traditional but comfortable and everything is well looked after. There's lots of local books, guides and maps to browse and games in the cupboard. Internet was fine; there was some mobile coverage but not very reliable. Kitchen is well equipped and its easy to cook as much as you want (induction hob, microwave). We went for day long walks from the cottage without using the car, or Ambleside is only a short drive. We would certainly happily return, as clearly many people have done over the years. Hide

What a delightful cottagel Very homely atmosphere with beautiful local pictures amidst more personal ones dotted around. Tasteful carpets at the same time as being sensible for a holiday cottage! Clearly people have loved coming on holiday here for years and the owners have had many returning guests - unsurprisingly. Very spacious house. Sheets aRead morend bedding exceedingly comfortable. Warm! Great to have a nice shower and bath with hot water never running out! The location could not have been better with a most beautiful (and secure) garden with "rooms", a variety of plants and trees and birds. Great to have a secure place for our dog who loved it. Small little stream in garden so you can hear the gentle burbling of the brook. Set just in front of Loughrigg Fell with with the bonus of a 5 minute walk to the Tarn where you can swim in the clear clean water; only a 10 minute drive to Ambleside - a peaceful iddylic setting which made for a memorable holiday. A special thing too to gaze at the stars so clearly at night without any light pollution to blot their view. We'd definitely come again but realise we'd have to book very early so as not to be disappointed. Thank you! Hide
