We as a group have rented this property for many years, and it suits our family arrangements. Good to find that the old fridge-freezer has been replaced at long last, and a new more efficient microwave cooker. The ensuite main bedroom needs new curtains, they were hanging off the rail and the linings are very patchy. We always booked the 'Bonfire Read moreNight' week because we enjoyed the fireworks provided in the field opposite Wainwright's pub - provided by the Langdale Estate, however this event has been cancelled sadly and will no longer be a function. We knew that Covid had curtailed many events, but did not expect this one to finish. We like the fact that there are many walks available directly from the property and no need to use the car, unless going further afield. Great pubs in the area, serving good food and a local shop and cafe to cater for the family. It was good to have a new fridge-freezer (after many years of requests) and a new more efficient microwave oven, a new gas boiler too. The thing that lets this property down is the lack of decent curtains in the ensuite bedroom - the present ones hanging off the rail, thin patchy linings and the curtains have been there as long as we have rented the property. There's a lack of small sharp knives in the kitchen - there are plenty of knives but they do not cut well. Hide

Generally good, with some issues that could be improved, such as the fridge/freezer being too small to cope with a large delivery on arrival day, and some of the beds being a bit on the firm side for elderly hips. The access drive requires a good level of driving skill, especially when having to reverse down it due to the limited space available foRead morer turning round. The outside lights, and the strip light in the garage, werent working, so the table tennis didnt get used. We nevertheless had a pleasant and comfortable week despite typical Lakeland weather. Hide

Overall the property was amazing. On arrival we were amazed by the property it was beautiful, the kitchen was very well equipped, the beds were very comfortable, rooms clean. We spent many hours sat in the conservatory just relaxing watching the 'locals' flying and scurrying around (birds and squirrels' not the neighbours! We'd sit out in the gardRead moreen reading and listening to the river in the background (couldn't see it from the garden). I don't think I've ever been so relaxed on holiday. The property is situation in a beautiful location and is in very close proximity to a shop with lovely cafe and pub (some of the family went to the quiz night). Whilst we did have a few issues that we had to raise but maintenance were swift and the complaint I raised was resolved well. However, this wouldn't stop me from booking again Hide

Lovely property with excellent space and well equipped. Only quibble is that the garden wasn't enclosed this would be helpful especially as a pet friendly property.

It was a lovely property and very comfortable. But the first thing that was not mentioned was how steep it is on the drive in the property. Also mainly the hygiene and cleaning was good except for a couple of things. One pan was dirty with something burned inside the bottom. We also found a bra filler under one of the beds and old carrier bags in Read moreone of the drawer. Otherwise I thought it was lovely. Hide

We were a large group and know the area well. This is probably the best-value large property for rent in the Chapel Stile/Elterwater area.

We would have appreciated some warning of the inaccessibility of the cottage by road in winter conditions. Our cars could not manage the hill in ice and snow and we had to leave them at the foot of the hill till the next morning which made arrival extremely difficult. The cottage hire was quite expensive at 2,085 for 6 nights - so not exceptionalRead more value for money - but it was warm and comfortable. It would have been even more cosy if we could have had some wood for the open fire available - we would have been happy to pay extra for that. It would also be a good idea to remove the insistence in notices inside on being ready to leave the cottage at 9 am on the final day - very early to get 8 people breakfasted and out - we were ready early and then someone from Original Cottages arrived and said that the cleaners wouldn't be coming until midday. However overall we found the cottage well appointed and the views charming. The teenagers particularly liked the pool and table tennis tables. Hide

We had a lovely family holiday at Spedding Fold with plenty of room for 6 adults, our 8 month old grandson and 2 dogs. Because the property is spacious we were all able to have our own space but then spend time together in the spacious lounge and dining room. Spedding Fold is in a beautiful location and has excellent accommodation for a big group. We really liked having two lounge areas and found the property to be spacious and well-equipped. The communication from Original Cottages is very good. Some specific feedback though: The fridge really needs replacing - the door storage shelves are broken Read moreand missing. The frying pans were worn out and everything stuck to them. Some newer non-stick ones would be great. The tray in the fire grate has a hole in it which means ashes drop into fireplace when you try to clean it out. It was hard to find the property-specific information for Spedding Fold - it was not left out for us and we eventually found it in a kitchen drawer. We only realised on our final day (through a text from Original Cottages) that the large plastic bags that were left with the teatowels etc should have been used for the laundry at the end of the week rather than as bin bags! Superb property and fabulous location. Just a couple of things, some of the remote controls didn't have batteries. The clock in the pool room doesn't work. We got new a new battery but no joy. Also no power lead for the Proline cd/radio in the kitchen. Apart from these very minor niggles, loved it and will go again.
