Set beside the river in the village of Kings Meaburn, this beautifully modernised old mill is a lovely base for couples, friends or families looking for a quieter Cumbrian holiday. Spend time enjoying the rural setting, then head out to explore the surrounding countryside on foot, by bike or by car. The Lake District National Park is 9.5 miles away, putting rugged mountains, scenic routes and spectacular landscapes within easy reach. For a change of scene, head to the historic market town of Penrith (10 miles) for a wander through its streets and shops, or combine your visit with a trip to medieval Brougham Castle (10 miles). Closer to home, Rutter Force waterfall (6.5 miles) makes a rewarding destination for a country outing.
The mill’s character comes through in every room, blending original machinery with carefully finished contemporary interiors. At the heart of the ground floor is a designer kitchen with granite worktops and an integrated dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge and freezer. A Rangemaster double oven sits within an alcove once used as the mill's drying ovens, making a fitting spot for preparing locally caught brown trout from the River Lyvennet. Meals can be served at the handmade oak dining table, with a view through glass panels to the original mill workings and main shaft. There’s also an entrance hall and a cloakroom. Underfloor heating runs throughout the ground floor, with oil-fired central heating elsewhere in the property. The lounge has access to a viewing balcony, offering a wonderful vantage point to admire the river and watch its inhabitants below. Inside, a wood burner with logs creates a cosy focal point, while the floor combines locally grown oak boards from Keld Farm with four of the mill's original stones. Two plush sofas face the Sky TV and DVD player, making this a welcoming spot for evenings in. On the first floor, the twin bedroom sits above the kitchen and has its own en-suite shower room. The second floor is home to the master king-size bedroom, complete with comfortable chairs, a hot drinks tray and river views. Oak flooring, doors and furniture complement the room, while goose-down duvets and linen sheets add a touch of luxury. The en-suite bathroom awaits for a relaxing soak at the end of the day.
Outside, the enclosed garden has a patio with outdoor furniture and a BBQ, creating a lovely setting for meals in the fresh air. Ample private parking is available for up to three cars so you can come and go with ease.
