Property code: OC-SZ358

Situated on the banks of the River Cocker just outside Cockermouth, this property sleeps two people and two dogs. With easy access to Buttermere and nearby waterfall. This sensitively refurbished former mill building offers accommodation with stunning views of the picturesque 19th-century stone bridge and river. Whether you spend your time here in the cosy first-floor living areas or on the convenient balcony, you'll be able to enjoy a relaxing holiday that will blow away those cobwebs!

There is no garden at the property but there are a great choice of walks from the door. Including a footpath which leads from the cottage into the lovely market town of Cockermouth (2 miles) and there are numerous pathways into the surrounding countryside. In fact, the national park border lies just over the stone bridge!

The cottage itself is spacious and comfortable with enticing views. In the Lake District, you can bike, hike, climb, swim, or paddle; there's something for everyone in this peaceful area of English Lakeland.

Entry to the cottage is up a set of steps via a covered porch. Up the stairs inside are the living areas, which have a light and airy atmosphere, courtesy of the high vaulted ceilings, skylights and dual aspect windows. Original oak beams create an interesting space that harks back to the mill's historic past.

The living room itself is comfortable and consists of a large two-seater leather settee and a recliner chair. A wood burner sits in a beautiful hearth in the corner of the room next to the TV and DVD player. Leading from the lounge is a door that opens out onto a balcony that overlooks the River Cocker. It's the ideal place for that morning cup of coffee whilst you plan your day or for that evening glass of wine whilst discussing the day's adventures.

Next to the living room is the cosy king-size bedroom, which again has dual aspect windows and a vaulted beamed ceiling.

Also on the first floor is the modern, well-equipped kitchen featuring an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and washer/dryer. There is a breakfast bar that acts as your dining space. This area is separated from the living room by a whitewashed stone wall with a charming interior window, just across the hallway and staircase.

Downstairs there is a bathroom with a bath, wash basin and shower enclosure along with a separate WC.

There is a secure area in which to store bikes and parking for one car to the front the property.

Very picturesque location, lovely and quiet. Although advised in the advert that the property is suitable for dogs, we would NOT advise taking them. The only access to green spaces outside are very overgrown unmaintained public footpaths , so quite difficult walking terrain unless you are happy to walk on the roads, which are quiet, but speedy whenRead more cars do come past you. The property itself is really lovely, with beautiful picture window views. Worth knowing that both bathrooms are on the lower floor, and access to kitchen, lounge and bedroom is by quite a steep wooden staircase (again not great for an elderly arthritic dog or perhaps someone with mobility issues). The property itself is very clean and well equipped. Some tea and coffee, and salt and pepper provided. The bed is very comfortable, and we slept really well. There is a wood burner in the lounge and the owners very kindly left some logs and kindling for us which was very welcome in the cooler evenings. The location is stunning and a really great base for travelling around the lakes and towns, Keswick, etc.. We would stay there again, although we would not bring the dog next time. Hide

Lots of cobwebs everywhere / the small balcony was filthy/ not clean at all and it's such a plus to the accommodation shame really.

My second stay in this cottage. Good size for a one-bedroom, and set up with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Brilliant, quiet location, away from the crowds of the Lake District but very close to both the North Lakes and the Cumbrian coast and just a couple of miles from Cockermouth for shops, cafes etc. Would use again.

Had an enjoyable stay in this cottage. A good size for a one-bedroom property, and very clean and comfortable. The quiet location offers easy access to the Cumbrian coast as well as the North Lakes, without any of the crowding/parking issues found in the Lakes themselves. A great place for a stay in this area.

We had a wonderful stay at this charming holiday cottage! It was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, and had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing break. The location was peaceful and perfect for unwinding, yet close enough to local attractions and amenities. The hosts were friendly, helpful, and made us feel very welcome. We espRead moreecially loved the thoughtful little touches that made it feel like a home away from home. Would absolutely stay again highly recommended! Hide

We really enjoyed our week, the area was nice and quiet, with easy driving access to Cockermouth, Keswick and the surrounding area. It was handy having the cottage owners next door, who were happy to help if needed.
