This characterful holiday home for two people and three dogs to enjoy a wonderful break away in the peaceful Dales village of Barbon. With parts dating from the early 17th century, the property is full of character, from original exposed beams to feature vaulted ceilings. Light, bright and spacious, the dining kitchen is well equipped with all the modern conveniences you could need whilst still retaining a delightful country feel. The lovely living room is the perfect place to relax after a day out exploring. You'll feel instantly relaxed in the cosy king-size bedroom and the modern bathroom comes complete with a shower over the bath so all tastes are catered for. Outdoor furniture means you can make the most of those sunny days by enjoying drinks and nibbles al fresco in the courtyard garden.

Barbon is a charming Dales village. Peaceful yet with its own famous village store, and cosy local pub, you've got the best of both worlds here. Stock up on supplies from the village store and head off on foot to find a picturesque spot for a picnic - there are plenty of footpaths and country roads to explore. Around 3 miles away is the beautiful market town of Kirkby Lonsdale. Here you'll find a great choice of independent shops, cafes and restaurants making it the perfect destination for a day out. Head to nearby Ingleton where you can enjoy the popular Waterfalls Trail or visit the stunning White Scar Caves .

If you fancy heading further afield, there's so much to see and do. Why not spend the day exploring Bowness and Windermere? A walk up to Orrest Head and onwards to Brant Fell will reward you with some of the most stunning panoramic views; enjoy a cruise around Windermere to enjoy the water from a different perspective and be sure to finish the day off with fish and chips by the lake. Bookworms will rejoice at a trip to Sedbergh, England's Book Town, whilst fans of real ale will love a visit to Dent Brewery, one of the most remote in Britain.

Accessed via five stone steps, the accommodation is then all laid out on the ground floor making it a wonderfully easy cottage to live in. The country-style kitchen is light, bright and spacious. Well equipped with everything you'd need for a self catering stay - there's an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, handy microwave and useful dishwasher - it's sure to delight the chef du jour. The dining table and chairs can also be found in the kitchen, making it a great sociable space. Down two steps from the kitchen and it's into the spacious living room. With its vaulted ceiling and original beams, you really get a sense of the cottage's history. A wonderfully calm-feeling room, it's the perfect place to relax and unwind.

Onwards to the bedroom. Containing a chest of drawers, two bedside tables and a wooden king-size bed why not indulge in a lie in or simply curl up with a good book? The modern bathroom has a shower over the bath (as well as the requisite sink and WC) so all tastes are catered for here.

As well as private parking for two cars, outside you'll find a delightful courtyard garden area. With outdoor seating, it's the perfect spot for that evening G&T.

Unfortunately, not one of the best cottages we have stayed in (and we have stayed in quite a few). There was no local information at hand (i.e.Doctors,chemist,hospital,vets eating venues, etc). Very limited food cupboard space as well as limited space in the bedroom for hanging clothes,(hooks on one wall}. The Bath/Shower could benefit from a slipRead more mat and grab rail (especially for the elderly,as ourselves). The 'scenic' views from the windows consisted of either a rooftop from one,or bushes and trees from the others. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable, the lounge acceptable, with plenty of games and reading material. Sorry, but not value for cost of the week. Hide

Lovely old building and lovely location. Nice secure driveway/front garden which meant the dogs could be allowed to wander around. A great start point from which to explore the county.

We had a lovely stay in this compact, traditionally styled cottage. It was warm and comfortable and provided good facilities for two people in January.

This is a lovely cottage. The bed was very comfy! It is in a perfect location. There are walks from the door and it is an easy drive in to the Lakes. It is a short walk to the local pub where the locals are very friendly. A relaxing stay in a fantastic location.

Great cottage for a few days away with the dogs. Plenty of nearby walks and if you drive for 30 minutes you're at the coast or stunning waterfalls. The nearby pub was great for drinks and homemade food, and very dog friendly too. We'll certainly be back here again in the future

A lovely little spot to stay in, every thing you need, easy to find and great access to some fabulous countryside. The wash house is clean and comfortable, a good size kitchen, a large sitting room, and a comfortable bed. The shower/bath had plenty of hot water at all times. The enclosed courtyard was perfect for our dog to roam and play in safely.

Very quiet spot, with easy access to Kirkby Lonsdale, Sedbergh, really lovely parts of the Dales and Cumbria. Enjoyed being here in November as cosy, with a very comfortable bed. If travelling with a dog in summer months would personally prefer a cottage with an enclosed garden

A cosy comfortable cottage with all required for a relaxing holiday.. The local Barbon Inn welcomed my dog and myself and was a pleasant short walk from the cottage. The village shop cum cafe was closed which seems to be permanent. Kirkby Lonsdale, a four mile drive, is a charming, dog friendly town with a park by the river for dog runs.
