This attractive holiday home is a two-bedroom bungalow is ideal for young children and less-abled family members. Nestled in beautiful Lorton Vale, it sleeps up to four people and has a fully enclosed garden, private parking and views of the Lake District's western fells. The property's garden extends from the side to the rear of the cottage and, beyond its boundaries lies a pasture in which guests are welcome to walk for around 0.5 miles along the River Cocker.

Lorton is a peaceful village in a wonderful corner of the UNESCO Lake District National Park. It could scarcely be better placed to enjoy everything that the area has to offer. The small village lies just 4 miles from Crummock and Loweswater, two of the most picturesque lakes in the area. It is also four miles from Wordsworth’s birthplace, the charming Georgian town of Cockermouth and eight miles from Cumbria’s adventure capital, Keswick. The village itself is a tranquil gem with an excellent local pub just 100m away from the driveway, a much treasured village shop and tons of walks and cycle rides from the doorstep. Whinlatter Forest Park is just up the road with a popular cafe, a wealth of mountain bike tracks, a Gruffalo trail and a Go Ape high ropes course. You never know, you could find yourself whooping along a zip wire high up in the forest canopy just ten minutes from your door. It really is an ideal area for a large group with different interests.

The property has two entrances, both of which have room for muddy boots and wet coats to be hung. The light-filled dining kitchen is spacious and contains an electric oven, four-ring gas hob, microwave, freestanding fridge/freezer, Nespresso coffee machine (remember to bring your own pods!) and a washing machine. Clothes can be hung to dry either on the line in the garden or in the garage. A generously-sized dining table sits below the beautiful feature windows, with views across the lawned garden, pasture, River Cocker and up to Whinfell. All windows in the house are leaded in traditional style and the view from the front window is of the Hopegill Head range.

The living room features fantastic vaulted ceilings and shares the same beautiful view over the garden as the kitchen. A large four seater corner sofa adds comfort to the room, which surrounds a wonderful wood burner (logs can be purchased from Lorton Village shop), making this room feel both welcoming and cosy. A TV with Freeview and DVD player and Wi-Fi is available for entertainment.

Like the living room, the two bedrooms also feature vaulted ceilings and feature beams. The pretty double bedroom looks onto the private drive and contains a built-in wardrobe hidden behind a beautiful old oak door and drawers for storage. The twin bedroom has lovely views over the garden to the rear, this bedroom can also be made into a super-king upon request.

The modern bathroom contains a shower, basin, WC, heated towel rail and storage unit.

Moving outside, you'll find the enclosed garden. A lawned area surrounded by mature trees and planting, the wonderful garden is the perfect place to relax with a cuppa whilst enjoying the birdsong from the garden's many visitors. A secure garage has been made available for guests (perfect for bike storage).  There is a private pasture beyond the property's garden boundary, which is shared with Winder Hall. It has a half-mile walk along the River Cocker with fishing rights included. Winder Hall and The Lodge - Winder Hall can booked along side each other to accommodate up to 18 guests. A lovely place to stay, very peaceful, away from the busier parts of the lakes. Well equipped, with comfy beds. Local pub serves good food. Close to whinlatter forest for mountain biking. For those with an EV, the charger is at the front door of the hall, the people staying at the hall used it most of the week which meant access toitwas difficult, Read morehopefully this wont be a future issue as Steve advised he was looking into another for the lodge, but worth checking before you book if you have an EV Hide

Fabulous lodge in a wonderful area. Loved the river walk next to the property. Steve made us so welcome. Eat in local pub just a few metres away from the lodge food was excellent. You have to book as it is very popular. The scenery from the lodge is outstanding even in poor weather.. highly recommend the lodge.

My family and I rented this property for five nights. What a wonderful property in a quiet rural village with good connections to main roads and towns. The garden is private allowing access to a nearby river which we used for private fishing. Overall we had a marvellous time at The Lodge.

My husband and I loved the lodge. It was so cosy but not at all cramped. The beds were really comfortable and we both slept well. The surroundings are magical, with bunny rabbits in the garden and a rushing river beyond. The keeper, Steve, is really helpful. Lots of brilliant walks are a short drive away, highly recommend.

Beautiful and very comfortable cottage in stunning location, but conveniently placed for easy access to Cockermouth which has good supermarkets, some great restaurants and a leisure centre. The garden is lovely and the surrounding grounds with the walk along the river are idyllic. 20 mins from Keswick and the drive down to Buttermere and the HonistRead moreer pass is stunning. Bit of a stretch if you want the lower lakes, but otherwise would really recommend. Hide
