Also on the ground floor is the well-equipped kitchen with delightful views to the raised garden beyond. Upstairs on the first floor is the family bathroom and the three bedrooms: a double with its own en-suite shower room, a bright twin and a cosy single. At the back of the cottage, seven steps lead up to the elevated rocky garden with views to the distant fells.

Explore the historic Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, now a popular visitor attraction offering scenic rides to Lakeside at Windermere's foot. Nearby, embark on adventures along the West Windermere Way or enjoy a family day out at National Trust Fell Foot. Additionally, discover the captivating exhibits at the Lakeland Motor Museum or visit the riverside restaurant for scenic lunches at the White Water Hotel.

Head south to the stunning Cumbrian coast, with its wide horizons and fresh coastal air it's the perfect place to truly unwind. A 18-mile drive east takes you to Kendal. There’s a great choice of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants on offer here; a trip to the Brewery Arts Centre is a must for culture vultures and the ruins of Kendal Castle will intrigue history buffs. Spend a day in Keswick - the adventure capital of the northern Lakes or why not sign up for an activity with one of the local adventure companies? A few miles north of Backbarrow is Grizedale Forest which has bike trails for all abilities. You can hire bikes from the Visitor Centre there and, if you have a head for heights, try out the Go Ape high ropes course.

The living area is a lovely welcoming room, with the two-seater sofa and three-seater sofa positioned to make the most of the wood burner, perfect for cosy nights in relaxing in front of the fire. For entertainment there's a TV with DVD player. The living room leads through to the dining area; gather round the dining table, equally suited to comparing notes on the day's adventures over your delicious home cooked meal or for spreading maps and guide books out whilst you plan tomorrow's. Sliding doors from the dining area lead out to a small gravelled patio area. Early risers will relish the chance to enjoy a peaceful morning cuppa out here before everyone else is up.

The bright and airy kitchen is well equipped with everything you'd need for a self-catering holiday. In here there's an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, useful washer/dryer and handy microwave. There's also a dishwasher so no need to fight over who has to do the dishes, though with pleasant rural views from the kitchen sink, you might not mind after all!

Upstairs on the first floor are the three bedrooms. First up is the lovely, spacious double room complete with useful chest of drawers for storage. The double bedroom has its own en-suite shower room, a real treat. Next up is the bright twin room with its two matching pine single beds, and last but by no means least is the cosy single room. Also on the first floor is the modern family bathroom. As well as the WC and wash basin there's a fabulous bath and separate shower cubicle - reinvigorate muscles tired from walking in the shower or indulge in a long soak, all tastes are catered for here.

Lynwood cottage is a great place to stay. Well equipped plenty of room a great location for walks (from the house one didn't always need a car) and excursions into the lakes generally. It was lovely to have a garden to sit in when it wasn't raining! I would highly recommend and hope to return.

Had a lovely comfortable stay. The house was very well equipped both in terms of kitchen items and also with things to do. Lots of games and puzzles for all ages. It couldn't be faulted, really good base to explore this part of the Lake District, especially when coming from down. South! Would highly recommend.
