  • A welcoming family bungalow with a pretty garden with seasonal fruit
  • Ideal for families and couples discovering the northern reaches of the Lake District
  • This light and relaxing property is just a mile from Cockermouth and has ample parking space
Property code: OC-SZ282

This charming little bungalow has been extended to open up the modern living accommodation, which sleeps up to four people across two bedrooms. Children and dogs are welcome and the rear garden is fully enclosed. Unusually for Cockermouth, there is plenty of unrestricted parking available in addition to the private parking in this peaceful and sought-after neighbourhood. A pretty garden offers cushioned al fresco seating from which to watch the sun set with a G&T in hand. If you want a taste of how the locals live, this is the perfect cottage for you.

Situated around 12 minutes walk from the centre of Cockermouth, guests can enjoy a wide choice of independent restaurants, bars, cafes and shops run by welcoming locals. Jennings Brewery is a Cockermouth institution offering regular tours with the all important beer and pie sampling and shop. Closer by is Wordsworth House, boyhood home of William Wordsworth and his family, now owned by the National Trust. There are lovely riverside strolls, footpaths heading into the surrounding pastoral countryside, as well as parks and play areas for children.

Cockermouth is well located for exploring the whole of north and west Cumbria. There is a huge variety of walks for all abilities with Keswick, Bassenthwaite, Loweswater, Buttermere and Caldbeck all within a 30-minute drive. If you get sick of the Lake District (something we think is frankly impossible!), why not have a day at the seaside? From Maryport, just 15 minutes away, head north along the Solway Coast for stunning views across to Scotland or south to explore the red sandstone cliffs of St Bees. There are plenty of attractions for rainy days, including the Lakes Distillery, Mirehouse stately home and the Beacon Museum, as well as family friendly days out at the nearby Lake District Wildlife Park and Whinlatter Forest Park.

The living accommodation is situated at the rear of the cottage. The living area fills a spacious, light and airy extension, accommodating an oak dining table which seats up to six guests, a three seater sofa and a Smart TV (don't forget to bring your Netflix login!), DVD and Bose bluetooth speaker, which can be hooked up to a smartphone. The living area opens into the neat and spacious kitchen and includes an electric oven with six-ring gas hob, combi oven-microwave, freestanding fridge/freezer and dishwasher, as well as a handy washer/dryer for clothes.

Both the kitchen and living area have access to the garden, which has been landscaped on two levels. While the house could be considered wheelchair friendly (with assistance required for entrance via the back door), the lawned area is accessed by seven steps, although there is a pretty table and four chairs on the lovely flat slate slabs at ground-floor level. The upper lawned area features cushioned chairs situated in just the right position to enjoy the evening sunset. A locking gate to the quiet lonning beyond is located on this upper level. The garden contains beautiful bedding plants and guests are welcome to help themselves to raspberries, rhubarb, mint and cherries that grow in the garden. Bikes can be stored in the back garden, which is protected by a locking gate.

The sleeping accommodation comprises of two bedrooms: a double bedroom at the front of the house and a twin bedroom at the rear. The twin beds can be pushed together if a double is required, but these are not zip-and-link beds. Each room is filled with natural light, contains plenty of wardrobe storage and the double bedroom has a large TV with terrestrial channels.

The fabulous family bathroom features a wide, double-ended bath, a walk-in shower (not wheelchair accessible), hand basin, heated towel rail and WC.

An easily accessible driveway has room for two cars.

Happy to recommend this property - the owners were super friendly and contacted us on arrival to ensure everything was OK. It is semi-detached but the living room is in the rear extension and we never saw or heard neighbours on either side for the entire stay. It's well equipped with a comprehensive welcome pack and ideally situated being a short wRead morealk to Cockermouth town centre. We used the local Indian and Chinese takeaway restaurants and the food was really good quality. The rear garden is on 2 levels and there's a sun trap in the top corner to enjoy the evenings. The photos dont do the bungalow any justice. Very comfortable the welcome pack of eggs, biscuits coffee and some basic seasoning in the well kept kitchen was a nice touch. As people have mentioned previously the well kept garden and its location means you don't hear the traffic from the town. We had a lovely stay here, Cockermouth is one of our favourite towns. The sun shone in September so we enjoyed the garden. The area was quiet and peaceful, and the house was well equipped and very comfortable.
