You can expect elegance and grandeur at every turn in this Grade II-listed early Georgian townhouse in the heart of Cockermouth. Sleeping 14 people over seven bedrooms and welcoming two canine companions, it’s the ideal accommodation option for large families or groups of friends who have a special occasion to celebrate. Spend your days hiking in Buttermere or sailing at Bassenthwaite, and your evenings hosting group dinners in the townhouse’s impressive dining room.

Step inside and you’ll find yourself in the wood-panelled entrance hall with a beautiful oak staircase. Make yourself at home and then head through to the country-style kitchen to whip up some dinner. Get the whole gang together in the formal dining room for a dinner to remember, before heading up to the spacious lounge on the first-floor for some after-dinner cocktails. Slip onto a sofa by the electric fire and soak up the ambience of this elegant room with its high ceilings and large picture windows. Alternatively, head out to the private courtyard to sip a cocktail and watch the stars come out. When it’s time for bed, you’ll find one bedroom on the ground-floor, two on the first-floor and, one mid-landing between the first and second-floors, and three on the third-floor.

Spend a wonderful morning exploring Wordsworth House and Garden (0.5 miles). Presented as it would have been when the poet lived here with his parents and siblings, it offers an unforgettable chance to experience life in the 1770s. On the way home, stop off for a tour at Jennings Brewery (0.5 miles), which has been brewing Cockermouth’s favourite tipple for over 200 years. Further afield, head to Mockerkin Tarn (6 miles) to stroll on the site of the palace of the Celtic king, Morken.

Had a great few days here with my extended family. the house had plenty of space, was well equipped and in a great location to potter down the high street or drive to nearby attractions. Would recommend for large families as there was plenty of space for everyone to get some quiet time if needed.

Lovely house in a great location! A great base for spending the weekend in the Lakes. All the bedrooms are lovely. Beds were comfortable. Would return in future. Thank you for having us.
