Property code: OC-SZ253

This is a characterful Lakeland cottage, located in the peaceful village of Bouth. Full of charm and with plenty of original features, the cottage is a welcoming home from home for up to three people and two dogs. Inside you'll find a well equipped kitchen/diner and a cosy living room, complete with wood burner, on the ground floor. Upstairs on the first floor are the two bedrooms and the family bathroom. Outside, accessed through the owner's garage next door, is a delightful rear garden area - please note, the garden is available April to October only.

Bouth can be found between the southern tips of Lake Windermere and Coniston Water, not far from the south Cumbrian coast - there's plenty to see and do during your stay here. Bouth has a popular pub so why not treat yourselves to a night off and enjoy a refreshing drink and hearty meal in a convivial atmosphere? There are some lovely local footpaths to explore straight from the front door. Grizedale Forest is less than a 30-minute drive away and has plenty of walking trails and biking routes, as well as a high ropes course for adrenaline junkies! A five-minute drive will take you to The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, where the trains take you through scenic countryside from Haverthwaite Station to Lakeside Station and from there you can continue your journey aboard a Windermere Steamer and cruise up to Bowness or Ambleside. The pretty village of Cartmel, with its 12th-century priory, is a definite must for any foodies as it's home to the famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding as well as a two-Michelin-starred restaurant.

Less than a 15-minute drive away is Ulverston, a vibrant market town with a great selection of independent shops and cafes. The birthplace of Stan Laurel, Ulverston is also home to the world's only Laurel and Hardy Museum - a must for any comedy fan. Spend a day exploring around the southern end of Windermere. Enjoy a lakeside picnic at Fell Foot, a beautiful National Trust lakeshore park, before visiting The Lakeside Aquarium or the Stott Park Bobbin Mill to learn all about the industrial heritage of the area. Why not head to Coniston? Another charming Lakeland village sitting beneath the mighty Coniston Old Man, a fantastic fell walk for the avid hiker. The south Cumbrian coast is also within easy reach; there are plenty of great spots to choose from here so enjoy a bracing coastal walk whilst you take in the beautiful wide open vistas.

Head inside and you go straight into the quirky-shaped kitchen/diner. In here, you'll find an electric oven with ceramic hob, fridge, freezer, handy microwave and useful dishwasher. A wood burner sits next to the dining area, making this is a lovely cosy spot for enjoying a home-cooked meal. The charming living room is full of character with wonderful original exposed beams and a stone flagged floor. Relax on the sofa in front of the wood burner here and compare notes on the day's events. There's also a TV for entertainment too.

The stairs lead off the kitchen up to the first floor and the two lovely bedrooms. The first is a spacious double room, with a feature fireplace and original wooden beams. There's also a wardrobe and useful chest of drawers for storage, and a cute window seat, the perfect spot for catching up with a good book - or simply take a seat and watch the world go by. The second bedroom is just as lovely as the first. This room is a single bedroom but it does have a three-quarter bed. There are also more of those characterful exposed beams and a useful wardrobe too.

Also on the first floor is the spacious family bathroom. In here you'll find the WC, wash basin and a bath with shower over. Whether you prefer a relaxing soak in the bath or a refreshing shower, there's a ladder radiator to warm your towels.

Easy location to find, but no local amenities means you need to come prepared. That said, the pub next door was fabulous for food and drinks - booking recommended. Good local walks. The host was very well organised and a fantastic help throughout our stay.

A great place to stay for exploring the immediate area, and further a field. Comfortable, and clean.and well equipped. The owners were very friendly and helpful. It is right on the road, and next to the pub, however, this wasn't a problem, and it was relatively quiet the majority of the time. If We needed to stay in the area again , we would seriouRead moresly consider staying again. Hide
