Property code: OC-SZ605

Surrounded by beautiful countryside in the hamlet of Newbiggin is this lovely barn conversion. Dating back to the 17th century, it now provides fantastic accommodation for up to four people. Inside you'll find a spacious open-plan kitchen/living/dining area with feature bi-fold doors and a cosy wood burning stove. Also on the ground floor is the first of the two bedrooms, a super king size bed that can also made up as a twin upon request, and the fabulous family shower room. Upstairs on the mezzanine level is the second bedroom, with a king-size bed. Outside is no less impressive. As well as parking for two cars, the cottage has an enclosed patio garden with stunning views over the surrounding countryside. Guests also have access, through neighbouring fields, to a private section of the river - a real treat.

The hamlet of Newbiggin enjoys a peaceful, rural setting but is only a 10-minute drive or short walk from the historic market town of Kirkby Lonsdale. Thanks to its rural location, there are miles of peaceful lanes and fell tops for cycling or just exploring. You can walk straight from the front door onto the adjacent Farleton Fell and Hutton Roof Crags via the many footpaths and bridleways. Alternatively, walk down the lane and across the river via a small footbridge to the local pub.

The small market town of Kirkby Lonsdale has a great choice of eateries as well as quirky independent shops, perfect for indulging in a spot of retail therapy. Visit the famous Devil's Bridge, a scheduled ancient monument, at the eastern end of the town. This impressive three-arched bridge is now a popular meeting point and a great spot to enjoy a picnic lunch. Be sure to check out Ruskin's View over the River Lune too, and you'll soon see why the poet dubbed this "one of the loveliest views in England." Access to the South Lakes is easy too, with popular towns like Kendal and Bowness nearby, as well as Windermere lake with all its water and walking activities. Or why not spend some time exploring the magnificent Yorkshire Dales? Charming Sedbergh, England's book town, is just a 25-minute drive away, as is Dent Brewery, one of the most remote in the country. Or spend a day exploring magnificent Malham Cove or Hawes, home to the Wendsleydale Cheese Creamery.

The open-plan kitchen/living/dining area of this property is a fantastic sociable space. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven and hob, handy microwave, fridge with a small freezer compartment and a useful dishwasher. Enjoy convivial meals around the dining table before retiring to the living area, which has a wood burning stove (an initial supply of logs is provided), perfect for relaxing evenings in in front of the fire. Feature bi-fold doors take up the entire back wall of the living area. Opening out the patio, they flood the space with light and allow for fantastic views over the Newbiggin valley, Whernside, Ingleborough and towards the Dent fells. There's also a 50-inch Smart TV to watch in the main room - if you can take your eyes off the view that is!

Also on the ground floor is the first of the two bedrooms, a spacious super king that can be made up as a twin upon request. Light and airy, French doors lead straight out onto the patio. This bedroom also has its own 32-inch Smart TV. The shower room is also downstairs and has a WC, washbasin and modern shower cubicle, ideal for refreshing tired muscles after a day out exploring.

Stairs lead up from the living room to a mezzanine floor where you'll find the second bedroom, with a king-size bed. A lovely bright space thanks to the electric Velux windows, you're sure to feel instantly relaxed in here.

As well as parking for two cars, the property also has a delightful, enclosed patio garden. With outdoor furniture and beautiful views over the surrounding countryside, it's a lovely spot for dining alfresco. A lockable shed is available for storing bikes: ideal if you like to get out and about on two wheels!

Guests can also enjoy access to a private section of the river, owned by the cottage owners who live across the single-track road. The river is accessed through the owners’ fields and is a haven for wildlife; otters, kingfishers, deer, foxes and trout, as well as numerous different birds of prey, can all be seen depending on the season. A real treat and perfect for some R&R in beautiful surroundings.

A beautiful barn with stunning views from the lounge and downstairs bedroom. We slept very well. Beds are super comfy. Only negative would be that there are no blinds upstairs so we would avoid staying with children during spring/summer. Sue was helpful and kind. Even offering to light the fire for us before we returned home. So many places to visiRead moret close by including Ingleton Falls, which makes for a long but fun walk with children. The Lakes are close too with so many walking opportunities. Hide

A super cottage, clean and stylish, with a beautiful view. Its a perfect place to relax, or to explore the Lakes and Dales. There is so much to see and do around, and we've had great adventures. Our host was very welcoming and helpful. The food, landscape and people have made an impression.

Stick Barn is in a great location with so many options for days out. The property is very well equipped and comfortable, especially the super king bed! The weather was great so we enjoyed the patio with lovely views over the fields. If you want to eat out there are good pubs and restaurants not too far away. Would certainly return if possible.

Lovely comfortable cottage, close enough to all the amenities at the near by Kirby Lonsdale but a peaceful location. Quiet lanes to explore on foot with walks directly from the front door. The cottage was equipped with everything you need for a most pleasant stay. Highly recommended.

Had a great week, loved the cottage and location, enjoyed watching the birds in the adjacent field especially a barn owl out hunting in the evening. The lanes are good for walking as so little traffic and we covered many miles in all directions including to Kirkby Lonsdale, along the canal to Burton in Kendal and Hutton Roof Crags. The pub at LuptoRead moren is well worth a visit and easy to walk to. C&R Wakefield Hide
