This delightful property, in the perfect location to reconnect with nature, is ideal for friends or families looking for an active holiday. Located near the historic village of Broughton-in-Furness (4 miles) in the southwestern corner of the Lake District, you can explore the pretty, cobbled square complete with a splendid horse chestnut tree, enclosed by shops, pubs, and homes, many of them from the Georgian era. The village provides an ideal base for walking, hiking or climbing, with ample opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the Duddon Valley.

This charming house is full of character with exposed wooden beams and a cosy wood burner, lending a countryside home-away-from-home feel. Walk up the steps into the property, and you will feel your cares slip away. The lounge/diner is the house's hub; enjoy the lounge's amazing views courtesy of the floor-to-ceiling windows. There are two leather sofas and armchairs to unwind while watching the Smart TV. To the rear of the room is a dining area, and the contemporary kitchen has everything you need to prepare family favourites. Along the hallway are a bathroom and four bedrooms - two double and two super-king-size, one with an en-suite shower room. A conservatory with a sofa and lovely views offers a quiet space to relax. Outside, get comfortable on the outdoor furniture, fire up the BBQ and enjoy dining outdoors surrounded by perfect scenery.

The Furness Railway runs from nearby Foxfield (6 miles) travelling the west coast of Cumbria and makes for an ideal day out for the family. The kids will also love a day spent at Wild Cat Island on Ulverston (16 miles), where you can hire a boat or canoe to the island. Experienced hikers can tackle Coniston Old Man (15 miles) or for walks and mountain biking routes for all ages and abilities; Grizedale Forest (20 miles) is a must.

Our family-and-friends party of seven adults enjoyed a comfortable, relaxing twelve-night stay at Valley View. Wonderful spot to stay and we had only one rainy day, which made for some lovely local-ish day trips: None of us was there to work but it may be worth noting that phone reception is poor and Internet access restricted to certain spots in tRead morehe living room, so a couple of interactive training sessions had to be planned for times when other guests were out. Newfield Inn was a food find! Hide

We enjoyed our stay and had a very good Christmas break - there was a Christmas tree, which was nice. We found the property very comfortable, plenty of room, well-equipped and very clean. A very good location, within easy reach of attractions, which were open during the Christmas period. Sadly, the weather was not brilliant and we had to cope with Read moremuddy paws, but that was hardly the fault of the owners! Hide

The location of this cottage is fantastic, with great views from the dual aspect windows in the living area, you are in easy reach of the Broughton-in -Furness, with places to shop, drink and eat and the walking direct from the cottage is superb and quiet, which was exactly what us as a family with our two dogs wanted. The owner was lovely and coulRead moredn't have been more helpful and informative. Would come back at a drop of a hat. Hide

We had a fabulous stay at Valley View, 5 adults and the dog. There was plenty of seating both inside and out. The settees and all the beds were very comfortable. It was very clean and had everything we needed for our holiday. The views are truly amazing, (unfortunately some of the windows have condensation between the panes obscuring the view). TheRead morere is plenty of parking, and a lovely outside space including seating. It is a very rural location, beautiful area. We did lots of hiking. Hide

Lovely welcome and a cottage which was in every way as good as it looked in the particulars, scenery was wonderful and well worth the narrow lane approach.
