Stay in the heart of the Lake District National Park and fill your time with water-based activities on the lakes, hikes around the nearby nature reserves and hidden beauty spots, and relaxing afternoons in the picturesque town of Ambleside. Spend quality time with your loved ones and up to three canine companions in this four-bed cottage, on the grounds of Rydal Hall, with characterful features, two lounge areas and a private patio overlooking the river.

As you step inside, you’ll notice the homely and welcoming atmosphere of the first lounge. Your attention will be drawn to the exposed stone fireplace with a warming wood burner. This space is comfortable and bright, with accents of orange in the decor. Gather with your guests in the spacious, open-plan kitchen/diner with a farmhouse-style fitted kitchen, tones of green and red throughout, plus a wooden dining table with seating for eight. For some quiet time alone, head into the snug, where you’ll be spoiled by the wide range of books. Also on the ground floor is a utility room. Upstairs is a family bathroom and four bedrooms, two with en-suites – a family room with a king size bed, one zip-and-link super-king-size bedrooms and two twin rooms. Outside is a private patio with furniture overlooking the river.

While staying on the grounds of Rydal Hall, you could start your day with a stroll along the River Rothay (less than 0.5 miles) and explore the hidden Rydal Cave (1 mile). Discover the literary heritage and 1630s bakery in Grasmere (3 miles). Head to the postcard-perfect town of Ambleside (2 miles) and enjoy a meal out or some retail therapy before hiking around the vast Windermere Lake (2.5 miles).

There is so much good about this property. The location is unbeatable. Easy walks to Ambleside and Grasmere. Bigger walks to Loughrigg Fell - or the great Fairfield Horseshoe. All without needing the car. Regular bus route. Great pub close by with good ales and excellent food. Issues - of which we had a couple that were typical of country propertRead moreies - were dealt with promptly and taken seriously. The house is not really luxurious but is spacious, comfortable and well and generously equipped. No private garden but this is well compensated for by the use of the Halls beautiful garden and grounds. Internet access is undoubtedly a frustration. Hide

Lovely cottage in a fabulous location. It was very convenient for lots of lovely walks, some wild swims and easy access to Ambleside for any bits and pieces you might need. I loved having the tea room so close too.

Internet only worked ok in a couple of rooms, however with a family it needs to work well in most of the house. It didnt work at all in the main lounge. In this day and age good internet connection is expected. After saying that it is a lovely house in a great location and would stay again.

Wonderful accommodation and well located for local walks, to waterfalls, Ambleside and Grasmere Also a good base, for local trips by car, or bus Badger Inn is recommended, for food and a warm welcome
