This welcoming holiday home is a barn conversion sleeping 14 people. Nestling in the tiny hamlet of Rottington, the property is a 10-minute walk across the rolling fields from the coastal village of St Bees. The barn provides very spacious accommodation for family celebrations or just a get together to enjoy the tranquillity of the Cumbrian coast and fells. In carrying out the high standard renovation, the owners have preserved the character of the building which features exposed beams, an oak staircase, wooden floors, a tall Scandinavian wood burner, luxurious sofas and possibly the largest en-suite bathrooms you have ever seen!

St Bees is famous for being the start of the coast-to-coast route for walkers and cyclists and boasts dramatic cliffs and stunning beaches. The priory of St Mary and St Bega is one of the oldest church buildings in the country, dating back to 1120. The village has several good pubs and hotels, which serve food. The sunsets can be quite stunning and on a clear day there are views to The Isle of Man and to the mountains of the Scottish borders.

The historical Georgian maritime town of Whitehaven is a short drive or enjoyable coastal walk from the property. Here you will find shops, supermarkets, places to eat and a lovely marina.

The superb Lakeland scenery of Ennerdale and Wasdale are also just a short drive away, the latter being the starting point for challenging mountain walks including England's highest mountain Scafell Pike. Gentler walks can be taken in the river valley of Eskdale or by Ennerdale or Wastwater.

The house is accessed from the main doors leading into the very large sitting/dining room. Comfy seating is arranged around a Scandinavian style wood burner (logs provided) and large flatscreen TV with Sky Plus, DVD. A separate dining area is furnished with a modern dining tables and chairs and plenty of space for 14 people to dine together.

Doors from the sitting room lead to the very well equipped and modern kitchen. A large American style fridge/freezer is complimented by a further under-work-surface fridge and wine cooler. Catering for 14 people is made easy by the two ovens, induction hob set into the island unit, microwave, mini oven and a dishwasher for afters. The kitchen has a 51-inch wall mounted flatscreen TV. There is also a 'Nescafe Gusto' coffee machine for guests to use (please note you would be required to supply your own coffee pods).

An inner hallway leads from the sitting room to the drying room with a washing machine and the central heating boiler. There is also a handy cloakroom with WC and wash basin. The large downstairs bedroom has a double bed, a comfy sofa, and a TV (freesat). The en-suite bathroom is very spacious, having a large bath, separate corner shower, WC, wash basin, and a sofa!

A handcrafted oak stairway leads off the dining area to the large landing with beautiful beams and skylights. All bedrooms are off the landing area.

The double bedroom has a lovely exposed sandstone wall, a double bed, sofa, TV and very large en-suite with corner bath with shower fixture, separate shower, a feature double wash basin, and WC

The first family room has 1 double and 2 single beds and a large, en-suite bathroom. The second family bedroom has a double and single bed, sofa, flatscreen TV with Sky, and en-suite shower room. A further bedroom is made up as a twin but can also be made into a super-king (please let us know at the time of booking). The separate bathroom has a large shower, WC and wash basin. The single bedroom has an en-suite shower room. Please note that the single bedroom has no window.

We had a lovely time with family and friends at the Whistling Jacks. There was a big open outdoor space where the kids spent most of their time playing. Location was quiet and very close to beach .about 10mins walk. The rooms were big. They were well maintained and clean. Enough parking space for our 3 cars. We would definitely go back again xx
