Set within the countryside of Bennethead, surrounded by Cumbrian hills, this shepherd hut retreat offers a secluded base for couples or solo travellers who enjoy the great outdoors. Part of a small development with two other huts, each with its own hot tub, it sits 3 miles from Pooley Bridge at the northern edge of Ullswater, with lakes, fells and walking routes close by.
Arriving via the front garden, oak steps lead up to double French doors opening into this elevated hideaway. Inside, the layout combines two shepherd huts linked by a central hallway to create a generous setting for a rural escape. The living and dining area has soft lighting and calm decor, while the kitchen is equipped for everything from slow breakfasts to suppers. A wood burner adds a cosy focal point for evenings in, with comfortable seating and a Smart TV for relaxing after days on the fells. Through the hallway, the second shepherd hut has a king-size bedroom with an en-suite shower room. The bedroom looks out over the countryside, with a door at the rear opening directly outside. Outside, a private front garden includes seating for morning coffee and a multi-fuel stove for al fresco cooking on warmer evenings. The hot tub is a welcome feature after days exploring the Lakes, while a raised seating area offers views across the Ullswater Valley. Private parking is available for one car.
The valleys around Glenridding and Patterdale (both under 10 miles) give access to some of the Lake District’s best-known hiking, including routes towards Helvellyn. Further into the Lakes, Bassenthwaite Lake (20 miles) offers nature reserves, birdlife and views towards Skiddaw. Meanwhile, the historic market town of Penrith, around 10 miles away, combines heritage attractions, independent shops and easy access to the Eden Valley.
