This cute, one-bedroom cottage is in the attractive Lakeland town of Ambleside, at the northern tip of Lake Windermere. The holiday retreat’s central location makes it perfect for exploring the town’s shops and galleries, along with the many independent eateries. As expected, the surrounding area is a paradise for walkers, and you’ll be within easy reach of popular beauty spots such as Loughrigg Fell (3 miles) and Stock Ghyll Force (1 mile).

The period cottage, which sits in one of the oldest parts of Ambleside, is full of character and charm, with beautiful original features alongside traditional wooden furniture and an array of homely touches. At the heart of the home is an inviting lounge/diner with oak flooring, deep-set windows, and a roaring wood burner. This is the ideal place to unwind after an action-packed day, sharing a romantic dinner together, reading your book in the armchair, or snuggled up on the sofa with a classic film on the Smart TV. The separate kitchen has been carefully configured to include all the essentials for a self-catering getaway. An open-tread, wooden staircase leads to the first floor, where a gorgeous king-size bedroom awaits. Rounding off the property is a sleek bathroom with an indulgent spa bath. Outside, enjoy a glass of wine at the bistro table in the cute courtyard on a balmy summer’s evening. An outbuilding houses laundry facilities, as well as a freezer and a drying cabinet for hanging outdoor gear. Private parking is available for one small car.

The cottage is just 1 mile from Waterhead Pier, where you can take a cruise across Lake Windermere to the colourful town of Bowness-on-Windermere, which has excellent attractions, such as The World of Beatrix Potter, along with a great selection of independent pubs and restaurants. Days out from the cottage include Coniston Water, Grizedale Forest, and the National Trust’s Stagshaw Gardens, all within 10 miles.

Lovely compact and cosy cottage, super location for walks, enjoying the lake and Ambleside town. Although compact, had everything required. This little cottage is lovely, and has everything you need for a week away. Plenty of walks from right outside the door so perfect for taking a dog with you. Easy walk into the village and a really good location, with parking, for seeing all that the Lake District has to offer, will definitely be returning!
